BITOG Pennzoil Ultra Q&A

Thanks for offering to answer our questions. The focus on the customer by most businesses has long fallen by the wayside.

Question: what prompted SOPUS to create Ultra in the first place?

Your Platinum line emphasized the cleaning ability of that product and a large number of used oil analysis verified you are producing a high quality product at a great price point.

So why did you decide to "mess with the recipe?"

Thank you for answering our questions. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3 V8. I usually use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in my truck. My Oil Life meter goes a lot longer than 4k miles. Why doesn't Pennzoil recommend following the manufacture's recommendation? Will you recommend Pennzoil Ultra to follow manufacturer guidlines? Pennzoil Platinum to follow the manufactuer's recommendation? Thank you.

thanks for coming on and i am excited to try Ultra... any ideas on MPG going up with ultra?

- What is the TBN of Pennzoil Ultra?

- Compared to Pennzoil Platinum, how does Pennzoil Ultra do in the 4-ball wear test (better, worse, or about the same?)

- What are the benefits of Pennzoil Ultra over Pennzoil Platinum, outside the additional cleaning ability of Pennzoil Ultra.

- What is the shelf life of Pennzoil Ultra? (although, If I start using Pennzoil Ultra I'll really also need to know the shelf life of Pennzoil Platinum ; )

- Can you provide us with your quality control specifications for viscosity, cSt @100°C, for all the grades of Pennzoil Ultra?

Many of us are notorious for mixing brands and trying both home-made and OTC oil additives. Some here may use your oil as an additive for another or even add another brand to Ultra in an attempt to make it even better. We all understand that every manufacturer recommends against adding anything to their well-honed formulation. However, it is going to happen.

My questions:
1)Are there add-pack strategies of competing oil manufacturers that would represent an additive conflict if added to Ultra?
2)Would Ultra represent a particularly poor choice to use as a supplement of some other oil?
3)Are there any OTC additives that would be particularly poor choices to add to Ultra?
4)Overall, is there any such thing as additive conflicts and if so, what particular add-pack components or formulation strategies would be particularly poor choices to add or mix with Ultra?

PU marketing statement: No leading synthetic oil provides better wear protection. *As measured in ASTM sequence IVA engine test using SAE 5W30*

Please provide test results of measured Sequence IVA wear in microns.

What about an oil with durability, for extended oil changes, not just more "cleaning power?"

In my opinion, the oil should be more robust/durable/protective for extended oil changes, than have more cleaning power.

Is it a full synthetic using a premium oil formulation?

Thank you to all who asked questions! We'll try to get the answers posted by Friday March 19th.

edit: The Pennzoil team has our questions and has committed to respond by March 19th.
