Bimmerpost says no to 0w40 but not here?

My car just has a catted downpipe. Everything else is stock. A lot of stop and go traffic and some spirited driving here and there. Never tracked the car but I'll floor it at light once in a while.

I have a 2023 GR Supra pushing around 600 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. Since I drive like an a-hole, I use Motul 8100 X-cess Gen 2 5W-40.

The evidence of plastic pumps failing due to higher viscosity oils is anecdotal at best. I know plenty of people running 2020 and 2021 models with 5W-50 on E85 at the track who have zero oil pump issues. People need to stop obsessing over the viscosity grade and start looking at the oil's HTHS rating instead.

When it comes to the "thick vs. thin" debate, I don't care about MPG or squeezing out a few extra horsepower. I want maximum wear protection, so I go thicker.

Also who cares what bimmerpost says. They are not an oil forums.

It might have to do with at least some years of the B58 having a plastic oil pump housing. With high viscosity oil under certain conditions the plastic housing would crack. That's what I remember at least.
Exactly that - wouldn’t want to go too heavy on the plastic pump cars but should be fine in the rest and if i remember correctly that’s a 2019ish model year issue

I thought Mobil 1 ESP is not LL01 or LL04?
The ESP 5W-30 is LL04, but arguably not as good a recipe as 0W-30 with it's AN and esters.
A number of us BMW owners have been using it with no problems. I consolidated on ESP 0W-30 for everything as it's approved MB229.52 for my diesel and a good price for all the other approvals it has.

I have a Gen 2 B58 looking for 0w30 or 5w30 located in Vegas. I see 0w40 being recommended here but it's not recommended in bimmerpost.

For example: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2230344

Any idea why that is? Also is Castrol EDGE Euro 5w30 A3/B4 fine to use on a 2022 b58?
Maybe owners are scared to death of oil pump failures from using the "incorrect" grade? Some posters could be in countries where the car was fitted with an OPF.

The B-series is not picky with regards to grade so use whatever Euro oil you want. The Castrol you mentioned will work. So will Mobil 1 ESP or FS, Pennzoil Euro, Euro L, Euro LX, etc.

You have plenty of choices even at Walmart in Vegas:

Castrol EDGE Euro Car 5W-30 A3/B4, BMW Longlife-01
Castrol EDGE Euro Car 0W-30 A3/B4, BMW Longlife-01
Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 ACEA C3, Porsche C30, BMW Longlife-04

Short answer is TIS says you can use LL01 or LL01FE in a B58 TU engine (it is in the allowable list). So, there is no problem with any of those oils. Bimmerpost users are not the best sources on oil.
