We are going on a Princess cruise tomorrow. About 6 months ago I bid on 4 cabin upgrades from a deluxe cabin up to a suite.

I was a little cheap and bid $1 over the minimum for each upgrade. Did not get any upgrades. We have a balcony cabin so all is not lost.

I have heard of some people who book a cheap interior cabin and then bid to upgrade.

I need to find a winning strategy to bid to upgrade.

I will work on finding a strategy.

They also keep the upgrade process open until two days before the cruise departure. So you might be the winning bidder (but not know) for months only to be outbid right at the end.

I'm 2/2 on cabin upgrade bids. Both had the pointer right in the middle of the dial and were rated as "good." Upgrades were balcony to premium balcony and premium balcony to premium deluxe balcony. Both bids were $75/person. My mid-dial bids for mini-suite and reserve class mini suites were not successful. I don't think there's any real strategy, just whatever the competition is for that sailing.

When did you find out if the box was successful. Right before the sailing?

I am a little annoyed that at Platinum level I got a crappy balcony cabin.

Both were about 3 weeks out from the sail date, but I believe a successful upgrade bid can be awarded as little as 2 days before sailing.

I will post some details here about the WIFI on Princess Cruise.

1) they build a list of MAC addresses linked to your account that can use the WIFI you pay for. So need to turn off randomized MAC under privacy or you will quickly fill up the list with a single device.
2) go to logon.com if you don't have the Princess app.
3) if asked to enter room and birthdate for WIFI then always enter the birthdate of the person who first signed up for the WIFI.
4) turn off your VPN to access certain parts of the Princess app.
