Way too many choices these days. Anyone have a particular favorite to add to the oil in a high mile engine? I have tried Lucas, BG, and JB but can't really tell if there is much difference. I also tried SLICK 50 which I now think may have been a waste of money.

Use a good high milage oil like Mobil-1 HM or Maxlife, you don't need that other ----, there just a waist of money..

Oh and

to the site.

Ug, run an Autorx treatment through there and then follow Daman's advice, straight oil is better than any junk additives. Autorx isn't a lubrication "additive" but a cleaner, it's kind of the non additive additive. Read around here, you'll learn a lot. I can't think of one lubrication additive that is any good, or that is recommended by any long time BITOGers. Am I wrong guys?

Well IMO SLOB,VOST,just to name a few are good ones to boost SM oil's.

So Daman (or anyone), I too use mobil 1 (5w30 truck and suv) and was wondering if SLOB or VOST (what are those, anyways?) would be a good idead, as it gets cold here and I drive 1 mile to work in winter...I would love to boost the oil....does it need it w/ twice a year OCI's and about 5,000 per change?

BG adds a bunch of CA and I had an EXCELLENT UOA on 10w30 in the middle of a Chicago winter in which the temp dipped 10 degrees F lower than the 10w30 range for the car. So it sure did not hurt.

Instead of a bottle of Lucas just get to grades heavier and be done with it. 5w30 goto say 20W-50. Better yet lets not and just say we did that. If you use a bottle of VSOT in 5 quart sump of 5w30 I think consumer reports found it just turned it into like 10W-40. But it at least has some additives. But does it really help??? Not so sure.

Get good oil and be done with it.

If one must use additive...don't add it all at once...I remember when Valvoline Synthetic Oil Treatment was a hot item...it was decided only one ounce of the stuff per quart of motor oil was needed to fortify...

Oh by the way...I wouldn't use Lucas Oil Additives...there are VOA's on this site of the stuff and it doesn't look to promising...I remember a pic of this stuff foaming somewhere...Anyways the guys at work rant and rave about BG products...but these same guys still believe in ATF in the crankcase for carbon deposit cleaning...I personally don't think oil additives are needed...if you have the desire to spend money on your car how about a brake fluid change...or some Valvoline Synpower Fuel Treatment...or new high-tech windshield wipers...

Nothing is needed with that oil,it's good all by it's self.

Yep, nothing is needed with a quality oil. But, while you're at it, why not add some Lubegard biotech or lubecontrol.

my opinion,i learned stay away from cheap additives as in slob,vsot(weak)..go with bg,comp cam's engine breakin additive, torco assembly lube, ac delco's assembly lube(the old gm's eoa)..always use a high quality additve if you must use.schaeffers, torco mpz,
bg, comp cam,sx-up if you can get it...redline, torco, motul, and maxima oils no additves needed.
