Howdy,
This is an oil forum, for motorcycles, on a oil website. So here is another consideration.
The guys I ride with ride newer touring Harley's. We do a 2 hole ( oil and primary ) at 5k, and a 3 hole (+ transmission) at 10k. So the engine oil is getting changed at 5K miles. We know that is less than the manufacture oil change schedule, we just choose to change more often. We do long rides, and its hot in Arizona. Some pay at dealer and have the tech change the oil and filter and use HD MOCO oil and filter and pay the labor costs....???

Others, we do our own wrenching and use Lucas, Amsoil or Motul. For over 5 years riding together and 10-80K miles no one has had ANY engine failure associated with brand of oil.

Lots of others people on this forum use MANY other brands.

Please focus on just these 4 brands: HD, Lucas, Amsoil and Motul. (Full syn, 20w-50)
1. Do you use these currently or have you?
2. Have you had any issues with any of these brands?
3. Have you done any oil analysis on any of these brands?

I've read many of the other threads about other brands...

Good Day~

I have a 2018 Tri Glide with the M8 motor. The owners manual says to change the engine at 5K, so 5K is not an early engine oil change. For the record, the manual states 5K or 1 year on the motor oil (which ever come first), 10K on primary fluid and 20K on transmission fluid (no time limit).

All but Motul. AMSOIL looks a lot better than most oils with UOA’s for stay in grade. Lucas tends to be bad for staying in grade. Ultimately, your engine won’t care either way.

you are correct. oil at 5k is correct.
i meant to say the primary and trans early

M1 in my '01 Twin Cam FLHR since new, only 30k miles on it. Redline in the primary and Redline heavy shockproof in the trans. HD filters.
I like the shifting and less clunk of the Redline in the trans. the best.
I'm an old guy, veteran of the HD dealer days of saying not to use synth. oils as it will make your bearings skate, until the Moco came out with their own synth oils.
