I blame you, Amazon, and UPS for that one.

Realistically, they should disable the two day shipping option (or at least have a very visible disclaimer) for a few days before and after Christmas. Personally, I wouldn't pay for premium shipping at this time of year, but they shouldn't be offering that option right now, either.

I didn't pay for premium shipping, it was free 2-day shipping. I called Amazon and it was all in UPS's wheelhouse.

You guys get all the breaks in the States. Free shipping up here is far harder to come by. With fairness to amazon.ca, at least their threshold purchase minimum is better than many other retailers. Many here have minimums of anywhere from $75 to $150 (or much higher) depending upon the site and types of products they sell.

Our main UPS office here has some really stupid hours - they make the stereotypical banker's hours look like a hard day of slave labour. I have to ship stuff to one of my businesses if I want a prayer of being able to receive it without an enormous hassle.

In the US you typically don't get free 2-day shipping from Amazon unless you're a Prime member which costs $79/year.

I think the last time I checked amazon.ca, if I ordered in the neighbourhood of $25 of printed materials, I was offered free shipping. I don't recall what the time frame was, but I doubt it was the high end shipping. Sometimes here, I've found the mail faster than couriers, particularly if signatures are required and one has a weird schedule like me. For example, I order my tea from Stash in Oregon, and just get it shipped to the post office, and I don't have to fool around with drop offs; I just pick it up.

Of course, the only automotive things amazon.ca has are things like calendars with pictures of cars and books about automobiles.

And U.S. Amazon won't ship automotive stuff here, yet Rock Auto, Autohausaz, and Shokan Coachworks will without batting an eye.

The latest in Amazon pricing shenanigans! I'm buying a new carseat for our 3 year old, and an old set of spark plugs and a garden hose 2-way connector are still in my shopping cart. Those SOBs raised the price on the plugs from $9 to $9.03, but partially offset it by lowering the price on the connector from $10.96 to $10.95. Seriously.

If that's not proof to the doubters that this is nothing but some sort of automated pricing system at work (ie, Amazon isn't trying to scam anyone), I don't know what would be.

I wouldn't say "NO store does this". I've seen the same on Sears.com, only it was worse. The price in the cart was fine, but it went up when you got to the payment screen.

"Store", as in Brick-n-Mortar. Sorry I was not more clear. I'm used to a store being a store. Silly me.
