I have a 2019 RAM Bighorn with the 5.7L Hemi Engine driving 65 interstate miles per day for my job. I have been using the OEM spec 5W-20 Amsoil Signature series oil. I live in Central North Carolina and would like to ask if it would be better to use 5W-30 Amsoil Signature Series to help in keeping the wear down on the top end. Any thought's?

Moving up a grade should be no problem. I tend to think a 30 grade is ideal for a truck application.

Thanks for all of the replies to my question. I changed over a couple of months ago to AMSOIL Signature Series 5w30 and engine was quitter after doing so. Will get a used oil analysis once I reach my next oil change and will stay with the 5W-30...

Clearance oil

Would there be any downsides for him to use something cheaper and off the shelf, like say Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 or FS 0W-40?
Short answer: Yes, Amsoil signature Series 5W-30 ASL would be a better choice. The shelf oils @Spring Break '92 suggests here would work too. One downside to the non-Amsoil is the NOACK is lower on the Signature Series 5W-30 Amsoil compared to the others. The lower NOACK on the Amsoil is a good thing, helps reduce deposits and the like. If he is willing to pay and can get set up with @Pablo here, in my opinion that is what he should use and stick with. There are 3-4 other good choices out there we could recommend, but why, when he is willing to pay for and use one of the best Boutique oils out there? Use the Amsoil Signature Series 5W-30 ASL unless money becomes an issue than there are other good choices to choose from.

I have had a membership with Amsoil for years now as I run it in all of the family fleet of vehicles. I get Amsoil for around $9 a quart but stay away from Fram oil filters after seeing them after being cut open to see how they were built and pleat count versus a good WIX filter like I currently use.
Use the 5W-30 Signature Series then, your best option in my opinion. Notice on the specs. that the 5W-30 has a lower NOACK than the 0W-30, that is why I would suggest using the 5W-30.

Premium Guard filters are the talk in town. They come in different flavors (CarQuest Premium, Microguard Select, etc.) Drop that Wix.

I doubt you will do any better for your usuage than Amsoil!

In the past Signiture Series SS-2000 5W30 was a legend or would have been if not made by Amsoil. There are some killer UOA on this site from this product.

Try it and see. I would also try their 0W40 while you are at it. Do some UOA and see what you see.

If you see wear come down as viscosity goes up I would consider even trying a Amsoils 5W40 since you drive 65 miles one way to work your Hemi is up to operating temp after about 15 minutes of driving. That said I doubt you need to go that high ti hit the sweet spot. I would suspect Amsoils 0W40 will be the sweet spot.

If not for the cylinder deactivation system I would think 5W30 when not towing would be the sweet spot. All cylinder deactivation systems stress the upper end of the engine and radicaly alter the flow of oil in the system brand does not matter. In the Hemi idleing is the enemy because of this system not enough oil pressure or volume at the lifters and came at idle.
