We accidentally got some OIL into a very difficult-to-get-to rocker channel that we are treating the rust inside in a VW 90 Syncro Camper.

While oil is sometimes used as a preservative this way, that wasn't our intention and we want to get the oil out in preparation for rust conversion (ospho) and for OEM wax spraying.

The question we face now is which of these substances, sprayed into the channel, is the most effective way to clean the oil out and not leave a residue behind that could harm adherence of paint after it dries, or interfere with the rust converting action of the Ospho:

1. Alcohol
2. Turpentine
3. Kerosene
4. Paint thinner
5. Mineral Spirits
6. Acetone
7. Biosolve organic oil eaters
8. Other

Id do a sequential "wash" of solvents. Start with kero, then mineral spirits then acetone or neat alcohol.

Acetone is good because it will remove all moisture from in there too.

What is the OEM wax that youre using? Care to chare a link?

3M general purpose adhesive remover. Great for road tar on lower body panels. Safe for cured auto paint. Definitely strips wax & silicone. Naptha is the first ingredient.
