Best oil for small 6HP Tehumseh snowblower?

I just rebuilt it for next winter and put in new rings, piston, wristpin, and rod. There was lots of ring wear and piston skirt scratches and a very mild score in the upper part of the rod bearing surface.

When the engine was opened, there was some sludge on the bottom, so to allow this engine to last the longest, what is the best oil possible? Cost is no object as it only takes 16-20oz.

I might run GC in it. Oh and a mechanic family member who knows a lot about Tecumseh engines advised to keep the oil level high in them. The oil level on the factory dip stick is really the minimum line from what he advises. I had a very old 10 hp Tecumseh let go on me this winter when the governor allowed an overspeed. Put in a brand new 11 hp. Will be breaking it in with SAE thirty-weight oil and then be going to GC myself. I just fogged it and drained the float bowl after stabilizing the fuel. Look out next year!

Will GC provide adequate protection for the flat tappets? And will 0W-30wt be too thick for the winter? From what I hear, it is thicker than 5w-30 when cold.

M1 0W40 is a great choice! I use it in my Craftsman 20HP V-Twin Brigs. I live in Michigan so it gets used to cut grass in the warm months and plow snow dureing the winter. I do not need to use a batter charger to start it with 0W40 in it! It turns over easily and starts first try.

We used Amsoil 0W-30 in our snow blower. 1 pull start. Heck it is easier to pull start than plug it in. Well 100 LL aviation fuel I am sure helps too.

temps above 32d F, a 15w40 diesel rated oil such Delo 400 with lots of AW and moly, a good thing in these small dipper spash lubed motors...will stand up to the high temps and rich run fuel dilution abuse

temps below 32d F, either Redline or RP 5w30 in the SL rating

or a cheap synthetic like CommieWart Supertech in 5w30 or 40 and throw in 4oz of VSOT

change each season

no SM oils in this engine please

I'm using Amsoil ASL 5w-30.

My snowblower has an electric start, but it always starts first pull so I find it to be unnecessary. I wish they would have spent the money on a headlight instead.
