Best oil for a 3rd gen 4Rnr w/261k on it?

20w50 is fine to stick with or run in that engine, in your climate. So is everything down to a 30w. The cold start thing is usually very very overstated. Somewhere there is a Toyota oil viscosity guide for your engine, from a market other than US or Canada, and it will show a range of viscosity that you can run successfully, which will include 20w50. So, while you didn’t know what you didn’t know, it amounts to exactly zero effect in this case. If it were mine, I would not change anything. It would be nice to see a million mile Toyota running nothing but 20w50 its entire life.

Imo, 20w50 is a bit overkill. I’d move to 10w40 or 10w30 but I can’t really argue against your results at that mileage!

Stick to the 5W30. If it makes you feel better run a HM oil.
I’ll add to what this moron said. I ran nothing but 5W30 synthetic in the Texas heat in my beloved 3.4L. 190K when I let it go. I do the same in my 15 Tacoma 4.0L with 136K. Amsoil XL. Heck I’ll post the picture again, lol.
