All modern synthetics are better than the Mustang's V6 engine requires. Just tell your buddy to first make sure the meets the required specs listed in his owners manual, then buy the cheapest one.

My 05 Explorer has basically the same engine. I have used(all 5W-30)Motorcraft, Pennzoil Platinum, GC and now am using Torco.

The winner hands down is Torco.

Noticeably quiet, smooth, responsive AND MPG has been the highest.

If you cannot find it locally, you can buy factory direct. They have excellent shipping prices.

All my other new Fords use 5W-20. I am switching all over to Torco.

I'd stick with 5w30 Motorcraft syn blend. $2.07/qt at Walmart and since he is bound to a maximum 5,000 mile interval for warranty compliance, there is no need for a more expensive full synthetic.
