Hello everyone.

I just purchased a 2014 Nissan Altima 2.5L i4. The first two oil changes are free from my dealer I plan to have my first change at 1500 miles, then again at 3750. At 7500, and every 7500 after that I plan to be doing the changes myself.

The recommendation from the factory is 0w-20. I put about 500 miles on the car a month and thats about 50/50 stop-Go and highway driving, yes, I do have a heavy foot sometimes. If I understand it correctly 30 would give better protection from "sheering" and 0w helps with fold starts. Would it be best to run a 0w30 or to stay with the suggested 0w-20? In either case what oils would you guys suggest, and what filter to go with it?

Thanks.

Follow the warranty requirements. Prior to warranty expiration get a couple uoa done to establish trends. Once the warranty has expired try a grade thicker and compare the data to the established trended data and make a decision from there.

I would stick with 0w-20 brand of ur choice (syn) and use ur OLM if u have one. If not, then 7500 mile OCI should be good with synthetic oil. I would use purolator filters because the price is right

Just to be contrary, does the manual allow a 5w30? If you're going for the 3 month/3750 mile severe service OCIs while under warranty, a 5w30 conventional is a viable alternative, particularly when considering cost. If you're going the longer intervals, there's nothing wrong with the 0w-20.
