Perhaps it's because the weather has really warmed up here in Southern Ontario. Perhaps it's because the local gas stations have gone to their Summer formulations. But I just switched out GC 0W30 for Tech 2000 (Wal Mart) Semi-syn 10W30 on my 1999 Hyundai Elantra and I have gone further on a tank of gas than I ever have before.

that doesn't tell us a thing...what was your past mpg and what did you get the last tank ..also you need to track it for 3-4 tanks tp be sure it wasn't an anomely.
My mom drives from Tacoma WA to Grants Pass OR a couple of times a year for the last 10 years ( to visit my brother ) her car ALWAYS gets 30-32 MPG straight freeway with cruise set at 75 ..last winter she had a tank give her 39 MPG What the heck was up with that !? she must have had a tail wind
at the most an oil should be able to gibe you 1-2% differance IMHO

The msds on it shows it's bottled by Specialty, a division of Quaker State. Looks be 20% PAO.

I don't think Specialty Petroleum exists any more, I think it was closed down when production was shifted to WPP as production went from SJ to SL. I think you're pulling the U.S. brand name that was used pre-1999? For some reason Wal-Mart kept the Tech 2000 brand name in Canada rather than shifting it to Super Tech. For all I know, Safety Kleen is simply the bottler, I doubt if you could recycle anything and certify it as Group III or better.
As far as the Wal-Mart= crap comment, please explain further. The ST stuff has been far from great but seems to get the job done in used oil analysis-- much like Valvoline. We have no GF-4 used oil analysis or VOA's as far as I know. Given the difficulty of measuring just exactly what's in an oil given all the new additives, I'm not sure how you could definitely give a statement as to good or bad.
I'd assume that any SM oil would be pretty good if it really met the specs. Do you think Walmart is cheating? How would they do that?
WPP (and I suppose its Canadian counterpart) are probably picking up stock and additives where they can on the open market. ST is a Wal Mart brand name, not a product. It's WPP in most (but not all) parts of the country. It used to be Specialty Petroleum.
What about Havoline?-- that brand name has been passed around just as much. What about Consumer Reports assertation that Shell was totally different products in different parts of the country?

Whoaaa!! What's with that? I suppose next you are going to tell me that my engine will explode from the Tech 2000? It's SL rated oil, it will be changed out at the manufacturer's recommended interval, I have used it in the past with absolutely no problems, and the price is very good.
Normally I get just under 400kms on a tank of fuel. I do not overfill the tank and only round up to the next dollar if I'm past the 50 cent point after the first shut-off from the pump. After switching to Tech 2000 semi-syn, I got 445kms on a tank. It very well could be attributed to the warmer weather. But I was not looking to get flamed on my oil choice.

I'm getting a serious bump in MPG with my SuperTech Full Synthetic.

Remove the arrows and the link should work. It's a huge list of products so may take a minute to load (on my dial up ). The msds files open as TIF files on my computer, your software may not support them?
