Best high mileage oil for leaks

I've ran all the HM oils available at my local wally world. I definitely noticed more leaks with mobil 1 ep HM and pennzoil plat HM (but also smoother quieter engines). switched to HM blends only after realizing all the oem oils my rides come with are blends (1996 to 2011-6 different vehicles). Several mechanic friends of mine prefer castrol so i use the gtx green bottle. definitely noticed fewer/smaller leaks with that and valvoline red bottle. Always used 10 30 at 3 k intervals.

LiquiMoly Oil Saver added to HM oil of your choice. But, as others have said, that’s a lot to ask to solve a leak of that size.

We have 2014 Forte that was dripping oil a bit, not much and didn't need to top off between oil changes. I had to wipe off a drop of oil off garage floor every 1-3 days.
I tried several HM oils, AT205, Rislone, Blue Devil and what not, was still same, not better, not worse.
At one point I decided to try Ceratec just to see the friction reducing effects, as a side effect it stopped the oil drip... :ROFLMAO:

Conventional doesn't exist anymore, they are all a blend now.
This is not true even though it gets regurgitated here frequently.

It depends on grade. With both Pennzoil yellow-bottle and Castrol GTX for instance, 5W-20 and 5W-30 are blends, but 10W-30 and thicker are legitimate conventionals still.

I recommend a high mileage conventional oil if you can find it. Otherwise a high mileage synblend. I would avoid full synthetic.

Also test your PCV by removing it, then shake it with moderate force/speed. If it rattles that means it's still good. If it doesn't rattle it's clogged and you should replace it. A clogged PCV can cause or increase oil leaks.

If none of the above does it, then as a last resort try one of the seal conditioner stop leak products. Other folks can recommend which to try. I've never tried this myself, but I've heard it sometimes works.

Another option of last resort is to use a slightly thicker grade of oil. For example, you could switch from 5w30 to 5w40 or 10w40. That might not be ideal for your engine, but it won't kill it and will reduce leaks, especially if the oil is conventional or blend.

I was just at Wal-Mart and looking for some Super Tech 5w-30 full syn oil. They did not have any, but they did have it in a full Syn High Mileage. I looked at the other High Mileage Brands Like QS, Mobil 1, Castrol and maybe another or 2. I do not recall all of them. None of them make any reference to seal conditioning and reducing oil leaks or reducing oil burning. I have not looked at a HM oil in over 10 years. I recall them specifically making these claims on the package. They were also NOT Energy conserving at that time. In other words you got worse gas mileage if you used one of them. I noticed today all of the HM oils I looked at said Resource Conserving in the round symbol. Again, no mention to seal conditioners or reducing oil consumption. Things have changed apparently. Do they still add seal conditioners but are too reluctant to make any claims? What have I missed?

The only time I used a high mileage oil it was for a rear main seal WEEP in my then '07 Kia Sportage (80,000 miles) 2 years ago. 10W-40 HM Syn Blend Mag1. Cured the weep in short order. I sold the car a few months later, told the new owner about that RMS and admonished him to keep using that kind of oil. Gave him a bonus quart of that oil I had lying around.

Is there a high mileage oil that stands out from others when it comes to seal conditioners. Have a 2011 impala will leak 1-1 1/2 quarts over 3 months. Have been using mobil 1 5w30 high mileage the past 2 oil changes, and the puddle of oil in the driveway doesn't look any smaller. Thanks
I like the first and original HM oil. Valvoline Maxlife... However, don't expect miracles with your old oil leaker.

When the very first version of BOBISTHEOILGUY started, back around 99 to 2000, that original version of Maxlife was the darling of the small group of us that were here. Bob was really pushing the fact that moly was a great antiwear additive (mainly because he sold Schaeffer oils that used a lot of it) and the original version of Maxlife used a lot of moly (around 250-300ppm IIRC, which was the highest amount for an off the shelf oil at that time) I ended up switching my 95 Firebird Formula over to Maxlife back then. We were all quite disappointed when Valvoline reformulated Maxlife and basically took out all of the moly.

Did you mean that you judged Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage Full Synthetic as less effective in stopping leaks?

Please provide us with a brief history of who Bob is. Is he the creator of this site, and does he still make active posts on this site?

Bob Winters originally started the site, he was (and may still be) a Schaeffer oil representative from Ocala Florida. He stepped away from the site sometime around 2006 or 2007 or so IIRC and he posted occasionally after that but he hasn’t posted anything here since 2012. I had heard about 10-12 years ago that he might have had a stroke but that he was recovering well. I briefly chatted with him via FB sometime around 2017, although looking back I’m not sure if it was really him or an imposter (because a year later I got a request for money from that account)
I would love to know if he is still out there and doing ok. He must be proud of how big this site has become!

Rislone ‘rear main seal’ stop leak might be worth a shot; Rislone seems to make good additive products.
Yeah, ‘original’ high-moly Maxlife was the bomb, great UOA results on that one!

No real miracle working oil to stop the leak
Mobil 1 full syn leaks more for me, it actually pools out

Thread-starter CMarshall78 has never returned to post in this thread.

His return has the same odds as Pampers seeking a Patent on High Mileage Oil Diapers.
