Hey guys. What seems to be the consensus around here as to the best oil filter for a 10,000 mile OCI. I have been using Mobil 1 EP filters, but I was just curious if there is a cheaper priced filter that most people consider as good.

Purolator Pure One.

I think most filters can easily do 7500 miles since AMSOIL says you can use any filter for that interval with AMSOIL oils. Maybe a synthetic micro fiber/natural fiber blend like Mobil 1 EP filter would be better for 10,000 miles and maybe up to 15,000 normal miles to match their Mobil 1 EP oil. I don't think the AMSOIL synthetic nanofiber EaO filter is even breathing hard at that point and might be over priced for only a 10,000 mile oil change since it is warranted for up to 15,000 severe miles/25,000 normal miles. I do use them for my 12,000 mile yearly oil change interval for both my vehicles though. I think I read they were tested over 40,000 miles and looked fine.

Maybe a generic synthetic microfiber/natural fiber filter would cost less and go 10,000 miles. Does anyone make this?

Kinda struck me funny too

Amsoil7 asking what filter to use for extended drains ..(imagine Forest Gump as he said "You've got magic legs" to Lt. Dan). Imagine that??

Amsoil7: The EaO appears to be getting some decent reviews here. M1 is surely a good one too ..as is PureOne. 10k isn't that much of a challenge for many filters if the mileage is racked up in a short enough period. The three mentioned above will do it better in terms of filtration again with the consensus of current opinion giving the edge to the EaO

You don't want the PureOne. On my car they get cloged after or around 4,000 miles. Don't use the PureOne unless you change the filter every 4k to 5k miles.
But the PureOne keeps my oil so clean.
You can keep the PureOne on there for 10k miles, but the oil will be all flowing through the by pass by that point.
You need to use a big oil filter.
I would just use 2 filters to get 10,000 miles.
Right now I use 2 filters one after the other to get my mobil 1 MX4T over the 8,000 mile mark.

I have no clue why you say this. Gary Alan installed a freakin differential pressure gauge to measure pressure differential pressure through oil filters. With 20w-50 on a used 8,000 mile plus Pureone, donated to him by another member, in 20 degree weather, he confirmed the filter was never even close to enough differential pressure to open the bypass.

Did you ever think that maybe your oil pressure drops from the oil shearing some after 4,000 miles? I SERIOUSLY doubt the filter is even close to becoming hardly loaded, let alone clogged.

I'd use an Amsoil EAO oil filter and change it with every other oil drain, provided you are using a decent quality, full synthetic. The key here is that synthetic lubricants generate lower levels of insolubles, so you don't clog the filter as quickly.

I have run Pure Ones for 10,000 miles for years and have not had your problem at all. In fact, at 10,000 miles (cut open) they are dark but no grit in the pleats at all. Suggest you have some specific problem or a misdiagnosis.

I don't get your screen name.

What’s there to get? I love Amsoil, and I use it proudly. Seven is my lucky number….Amsoil7.

Look, Amsoil is sold cheap and conveniently located at an old mechanic shop just a hop from my house. However, the filters are not sold there, so I don’t use them. Plus, they are too expensive for me. Do you mean to suggest that because I love the oil, and I have their name in my username, that I should stick only with all of their products? I go with what is best and convenient…I don’t like a lot of fuss when I proceed to change my oil that’s all.

Actually I didn't know any of that, thanks for explaining. I just thought it a bit odd with your screen name you didn't know the best 10K+ oil filter are the Ea0's.

I run a WIX in my Subarus, and the insoluble counts on my UOA's are stellar...oh, did I mention this was after 15,000 miles on the filter, with 7500 OCI's?

Most any good filter will do the job well for over 10,000 miles in an already clean, well-running, well designed engine. If you don't have this kind of engine, you may not have this kind of result.
