Here are a few threads to get you started on your quest to what is the best filter. Some links cover cartridge filters. Some are relatively new and reflect the recent changes in the industry. Most of them should give you principles to look for:
hey all not sure how long this fram endurance quality issue with the leaky seal or whatever it is will go on for but what is the best filter to get at the moment? best as in best in filtering and quality etc
i know the leaky seal thing could be subjective and we will never know if it actually effects performance but i would rather be safe then sorry
Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter seems easy to find but idk if they updated the product in many years
my vehicle fits the 7317 fram filters or the WIX 57356XP or MOBIL M1-110A + all the other brands in the same size
So this is about my ES350 and a newly acquired 06 Avalon.
These filter companies keep switching things up and every time I go to restock my oil filters (which is maybe once a year) I log onto BITOG and see if anything changed and dang it, it usually has.
So Purolator is out, then M1 was the star, then Fram, but suddenly Fram isn’t good anymore?
I’m doing 7k oil changes on my car (synthetic) and do a filter change every OTHER time (so around 14,000 mi). Was using Fram XG. Still a good choice? Or what’s the verdict here?
I could go to changing the filter every time but I got a system...
It's oil change time again, for my wife's 2017 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. I have been using Fram Synthetic Endurance, but it appears my local Walmart doesn't have it. I came here and from what little I have seen, when I can sneak on here at work, is they are no longer top dog, and some Walmarts aren't even carrying it anymore anyway. Unfortunately my time to dig through other threads is limited, even at home, with twin toddlers, so figured it might be easier to just make a thread. What are you fine people's opinions on the best filters these days? I have access to Walmart, O'reilly...
I hear that Wix is no longer the same quality that it used to be. Same with the Napa Gold filters. Are there good filters anymore? I used factory filters for my newer Mazda vehicles, but for my older stuff I have been using Wix.
Mine has always been the Fram Ultra. However I see Fram has added the Titanium and Endurance now.
Unfortunately Meijer quit carrying Fram, so I bought a Mobil 1 filter this time. I have no problem with Mobil 1 filters but just wasn't my first choice.
What is your current favorite? Does price play a part in your decision?
It's been a few years since I've paid attention to oil filters and it seems things have changed a bit. Who makes the highest quality filters these days? Fram Ultra, Wix, Mobil 1, etc?
Looking to run extended intervals, probably 10k miles or so.
I haven't been as active here as I typically was years ago. But I remember when I joined, everyone here raved about Wix/Napa Gold's. Then there was a massive jump to Fram Ultra's that seemed to last forever.
Are the Fram Ultra's no longer the filter of choice for BITOG'ers? Did something change?
I'm currently running through a stash of Wix's on my Honda Accord. So I'm sticking with those because I know I'm safe there and the car is just my daily (actually my 17 year old son is driving it now)
But on my Silverado, I've been running Royal Purple filters. I want to buy the best oil filter...
If oil is sampled and tested from a run, then another filter fitted and run again for maybe an hour, then sampled and tested again, wouldn’t this show which oil filter filters best? Assuming even sampling and testing, and using the same oil. Or done many times would even out the errors of sampling and testing.
I am switching oils from AMSOIL Signature Series to Motul all 0W20 and would like to change from OEM Nissan filter. What is the general consensus as the best oil filter for a twin turbo 3.0 V6 of approximately 400 hp?
