best amsoil for this 2002 accord

a buddy of mine has a 2002 honda accord w/ the 4 cyl. it has 74k on it and is well out of warranty. he is horrible w/ going over oil changes. this care has maybe had a half dozen oil changes in it life. i just changed it and put a quart of amsoil 0w30 in and filled the rest w/ dino penzoil 5w30. i'm using this as a "rinse" cycle to try to clean the engine out before i put all amsoil in it (i'm a dealler). he's short on money and so am i so i won't be putting auto-rx in it. i'll use some amsoil engine flush before i put amsoil into.

what amsoil would be best for this car that won't be seeing frequent changes? i'm thing HDD 5w30 or maybe even 15w40 or the new 5w40. none of that 5w20 stuff that honda recommends

i try to keep after him and i'm a believer in analysis but like i said he's short on money and i rarely see him much to get on his case.

I would suggest the HDD 5W-30. I think 15W-40 is too thick for the New England winter. I would not go any farther than about 15,000 miles (under ideal driving conditions) before the first oil change. Perhaps on the second interval he can go up to about 25,000 or one year (with oil analysis). He will of course need to remember to replace the oil filter at six months.

You'll learn that this guy may not be your ideal customer. When something breaks on his unmaintained car, he'll blame Amsoil. Oh well.


HDD 5W-30 would be a good choice, I hope he doesn't crap himself when you tell him the price.

Also consider an AutoRx clean cycle.

If he has been this negligent, it may be a sludge bucket already.

I think you need to Auto RX or consult with Amsoil about their flush recommendations for something like this.(This is not a standard application).

I'd check with the pro's on this one. I'm not one and not an Amsoil guy, but I'm thinking if he's done 10K or worse oci's on Jiffy Lube, then a good oil might bust loose some big chunks.

Gotta clean it first. Can't avoid it, imho, or just leave well enough alone.
