What's benefit of using full saps - LL01 / MB229.52 oil over mid SAPS?
By high SAPS, circa 1.2% vs 0.8% for mid-saps (API SP/GF6 / D1G2)

High SAPS is typically a result of richer additive pack / higher TBN which means the oil may be capable of longer OCI.

Yes this. While fuels in the US are now lower sulfur, a low saps oil still may not have enough for an extended OCI. Below I've linked a recent UOA I did, 10k on low saps VW 0w30. Regrettably I did not have a TAN done, but both viscosity and TBN are hinting the oil may have passed it's limit. By contrast all my full saps 10k OCI's generally come in with a TBN in the 3.5 range.

Viscosity and TBN look fine and are within limits

Yes, but his TBN wouldn't have been for long. It was essentially "done" already and not worth the temptation to extend further. KCJeep made the right call having tested when he did.

TBN doesn't change linearly. He could have had many more miles on the oil. With that said, at 10k I would have changed it too.
