Here's my recent UOA in the Passat, my first run on a VW 504 oil. Honestly I think this looks fantastic, I couldn't be more pleased with how the oil held up. My use is 95% highway commute and the oil get fully warmed up for extended periods each way so I am pretty much the poster child for being easy on oil, and it shows here. I do some spirited driving now and then, but never until the oil is up to temp.
Here's another recent UOA from another BITOG'er who short trips and had very different results.
The previous UOA shown was dealer bulk Castrol 5w40, not the black bottle at Wally's that meets higher specs. The trace of Ti you see in the current sample is left over from black bottle Castrol Euro 5w40 that was run after that (no UOA).
Now for the SURPRISE! The VW dealer 0w30 is NOT the same as Mobil 1 ESP as most here (including me) previously thought. This sample shows no moly at all, which has consistently been present in the off the shelf Mobil ESP offerings. It is also displaying very high remaining boron, more than the ESP samples shown here. Since detectable boron typically depletes over the course of an OCI the fact there is 227 ppm boron showing in my sample at 10,200 miles, I think we can safely conclude the dealer VW 504 is very boron heavy.

Mobil 1 0W-30 ESP Blackstone Report
I recently changed the oil in my 19' VW Atlas. I came here for advice on my first oil change and went with Mobil 1 0W-30 ESP. I sent some used oil into Blackstone and figured I should post the report in case anyone was interested. They seemed pretty impressed with the oil. I'm a little...
