Well the wife is leaving with the twins, ahhh peace and quite, so she tells me to write this story about my son and his encounter with my mom, so here goes...

I have twins 1 of each they do the kid thing if they can get away with it, not to often just enough, their at 11years now. Three years ago they were at my mom's visiting for the weekend and my boy likes to learn the hardway really PO mom. So for months my mom would ask "D" was doing I never really thought about it grand parents always ask, but something was different. I was always told the best revenge a parent can have is when their children grow up and have kids. Anyway my boy is a smart*** and when mom come around he would disappear. Took me afew months to figure out what happen when the wife came clean and told me. Mom told him what to do and he in his childess wisdom decided he didn't want to, so he made two mistakes 1) mouth back 2) Told her if she hit him with the belt he would call 911 and report her for child abuse. Well you can guess the scene that took place, I know I did. Mom dang near beat the living beJesus out of him. Now I'm from an averege family, raised with police and firemen (cousins and uncles) but when the wife told me I was speechless. My son almost lost his life to my mother. How dare he threaten to call the police and report her for childabuse. Now I'm mad as ****, but mom said it was between her and her grandbabies. So I asked pops, he said he watch the whole thing unfold before his eyes. Well dad what did you do, "Son you know how your mom is, I kept my mouth shut had a beer turn off the cable and watch the show". I thought my kids learned by watching my two older brothers and myself included bow down to this great power learn but noooo. When my wife first met my mother she had just chased my younger brther out the house and made me go get him so she can finish the job. Come to think of it I may have married my mom,****. The wife have several traits.

There are a few things the people here fear and thats parents & grandparents. Sure we respect them, but the fear when they get mad. They don't worry about revenge they get even, they play the mind game that makes you look for punishment just so it will be over with. My son is now with the program and my daughter learned from his mistake. I'm glad those days are over for me or are they? Last year my older brother had to spend thanksgiving alone he PO mom, but she did send him a plate..

While living in California a friend spanked their 12-year-old daughter, who thoroughly deserved it.

One of those spankings that scares much more than cause physical pain.

Kid screamed and yelled like a banshee. Neighbors called the cops. Two male cops appear, question the parents then call for a female cop to question the daughter.

After the cops finished their mini-investigation they stood in the living room and proclaimed the kid got exactly what she deserved and apologized for being a bother but they did have to watch for those who go overboard with the physical punishment.

Cops smiles and said goodbye. The daughter appeared somewhat shocked and I laughed out loud.

Yah' know.... that daughter lost some of her "attitude" after that. If anything, I believe the cop's saying she got exactly what she deserved had a bigger impact than the spanking!!!

There are cases where "the state" goes overboard, empowering kids too much but, from what I have seen, too many parents use the threat of the state punishing them for punishing their kid (within logical reason and common sense) as a "cop out" to not do their job as a parent.

Above paragraph written with the knowledge that many exceptions exist and circumstances vary greatly..... but, generalities are allowable when writing to a crowd with enough functional brain cells to NOT allow implanted propaganda to result in knee-jerk rhetoric. Don't believe there is an excess of brainwashed droids on this message board... unlike so many other boards the Coot has wandered through over the years.

Carry on.

obbop, similar story with a workmate's daughter who was verging on out of control. She was 13/14, and leaving home all hours to "hang out", knew all of her rights but none of her responsibilities.

She walked out one night when expressly told not to do so.

Her Dad rang the cops to find out exactly what he could and couldn't do.

He went down, asked her to come home, she wouldn't, so he put her in a fireman's carry back to the car. Her friends were all "she's got rights", that's abuse, etc and said they would call the Police.

He gave them the number.
