Greetings OilMen,

Putting the mower to bed for the winter and noticed some moderately heavy corrosion on the negative battery terminal of the 2014 Everstart battery from WalMart. (Surprised to see that as the OE only lasted 5 years.)

Soliciting opinions on the best battery terminal anti-corrosive.

Thanks.

I've used the CRC stuff and the Permatex Dielectric Tune-Up grease (not at the same time) along with the felt washers. I had corrosion on the negative terminal for one car before I replaced the battery and I ended up replacing that terminal clamp.

I use dielectric grease on the posts & cables.
Also, I keep the battery on a maintainer.
And if there are removal caps atop the battery,
keep the acid level above the lead plates.
Not filled to the top, just above the plates.

Growing up, my dad's Volvo's always had thick coatings of the stuff on the battery terminals.
None of my vehicles suffer this condition.

I like ACF50 for that task and it also replaced using die-electric grease in sealed connectors for me also.

If this helps. From what I have learned…
*Corrosion on the positive terminal indicates overcharging. No explanation needed.
*Corrosion on the negative terminal indicates undercharged. The stator may not be allowing for a sufficient charge.

I mainly use CRC battery terminal cleaner and then after it’s clean I spray it with the protectant. Other brands work fine too. I’ve used the washers before and the terminals have still corroded.
Agreed. I stopped wasting money on those green and red washers. I would just apply silicone paste around the posts before installation.
