Another filter from the G6. OCI on this one was 8000KM. Again, taller element than the comparable Wix (51040) just like the BT223 & 51348. Nitrile ADBV was pliable, as I said before I like the one piece end cap design. As well as the center tube design with the directional perforations on the spiral core. I did't like the separation of the pleats at the seam. All in all I'm happy with the Baldwins and will use them with confidence. I can say that the oil seemed a little clearer when drained after using this filter. I don't know if that is the filter or just less junk coming out of the engine. I have a Fram TG on it now and a Wix for the next time so I have a couple to compare with.

I wanted to try the Tough Guards but had never seen the cartridge for the G5 so when I was in WalMart one day and they had it, I got all excited (talk about an oil nerd!) and bought both. Besides, seeing them for your self instead of just pictures is fun and insightful. I gained a new outlook on Fram when I opened a new Motomaster which is made by them. There will very likely be lots of these in this cars future, I can't beat the price.

I would guess it's a little thinner than the M1 media but I have never opened one of those up.

Hey cp3

Thanks for all the filter pics! I do not understand the appeal of the Baldwin. It looks much worse than the K&N you ran for 1500KM longer on the same G6. Torn media and a nitrile ADBV. The K&N looks like new compared to this...

No problem, hope everyone enjoys them!

Um, no torn media on this. I'm guessing you're refering to the first pic of the element? The rough edge on that pleat is the seam, which was still sealed fine and what sort of looks like a gap at the bottom is just oil.

No doubt the K&N looks better, could not agree more, love how the pleats are still straight and the media seems thicker.

I'm not too concerned about the nitrile ADBV as the max the OLM has gone is about 10000km and with current use the car gets 4 OCIs per year. I may be more concerned if they were on the car for a longer time period. What I may do though is put some of the ADBVs outside in the cold and see how much difference there is in their flexability.

The biggest reason for the Baldwin is the fact that it's $6.10 compared to the $15.99 for the K&N. Compared to a Wix or Napa Gold, which is closer in price at about $9 locally, it fairs pretty well. Now, the difference of $39.56/year won't kill me for sure but it just seems like such a waste with my OCI as that filter, as you said, still looks new.

Harman Heavy Vehicle Specialists, it is a transport truck service and parts place. Baldwin has a distributor locator that works with Postal Codes on their site, that's how I found them.

It sure is ... still trying to determine what I'm seeing.

Ok, I've got the element wrapped in paper towel and sitting open end down. I'll give it a week or so and snap a couple more pics.

Honest guys, the media wasn't compromised....lol

fwiw, I didn't doubt you, even though to me it looks the same as others have mentioned. Figured you would have noted any breach in your post. But hey, this is Bitog.

The shiny triangular shapes at the bottom, either side of the seam? That is oil.

Gah, it just looks silver in color that's why it's throwing me off. My only other guess was pooling oil. Maybe it's the camera flash or lights behind/above shining at just the right angle creating the illusion to me.
