Here we have a Baldwin B243, big brother to the BT223 from a Saturn SL2. The car is gone now but my Son's new Mazda 3 uses the same filters so up next in this line is a factory Mazda/Ford and currently installed M1-102.

This has 4378km on a fairly dirty engine but seems to have held up well, which isn't surprising even with some chunky bits in the pleats. The pleat spacing at the seam is not as bad on this filter as it was on the B43-S but still not as uniform as the rest of the element. Again, I like the one piece base end element cap and the directional perforations in the center tube. Bypass seems to function fine and the nitrile ADBV was soft and pliable. I cut this open a couple weeks ago and didn't keep the rest but if you look at my other Baldwin posts you'll see the same stuff, solid construction with a coil spring.

Interesting to see the pass for the wavy media and wider separation at the seam pleat. ~2700 miles not exactly a torture test of any filter though, but this looks ok.

Personally fine with some waviness and seam as long as function not compromised. Just mentioning it because not all manufacturers seem to get similar pass here.

Thanks for the pics.

I've come to accept the waves. Doesn't seem like it really affects anything and it's fairly common. The seam spacing I don't really like but unless it is an E-core I think it is more a cosmetic thing as well. Just funny that some do the seam so much better than others. Texan4life's recently posted Mahle comes to mind and most of the Wix I've opened.

Baldwin makes excellent filters. I had a couple runs of them on each one of my fleet about a year ago. I quit using them not because of quality but i found them to not be cost effective for me. The filters can be had a a decent price but shipping blows their cost out of the water for me. If i could find them for lesser shipping costs or a local source i would probably use them again.

My favorites. My cheap source got not so cheap though, (almost tripled) so unless I buy in bulk they are no longer viable for me. I like them so much I just might buy in bulk.

Thanks for posting!

KC, have you checked out a heavy truck repair or supply shop locally? That's where i get mine and I can't really beat the price with anything else here. I have M1s for next year I got on sale but I may just go back to these after that as long as the cartridge for the Ecotec seems decent.

For information purposes, thought I'd check the prices of some common applications of Baldwin filters on the site commonly linked (above)with low prices.
All price don't include extra shipping.

14610/7317 Baldwin 1402 $6.08
10241/3614 Baldwin 223 $4.77
14459/3593A Baldwin 227 $6.23

Didn't look up shipping because it requires multiple information boxed to be entered. Free shipping over $50, but I'd have no need or reason to buy in quantity. When I can get all Classics with similar nitrile adbv for $3.27 at Wally, and P1's now for $5 and no more than $6 elsewhere, I'd have no reason to look at Baldwin. Hastings, no availabilty at all in this area. And, based on the pics here with ~2700 miles, not seeing anything beyond standard metal end cap construction. JMO.

Your B2 is 4.37 here

Yeah that was my "cheap source". Got great service from them and they were charging $3.64 a filter with free shipping. Now they are $4.37 with $10 shipping. So if I buy two like I did before it's now over $9 a filter. Ouch.

If I buy a dozen I can get free shipping though, then it's back to $4.37 a filter I might just do it.

Thanks I'll have to look for someplace like that. Any suggestions on a chain or something to look for?

Federated Auto Parts, a regional chain in east/mid USA carries Hastings, the sister to Baldwin.

Hastings and Baldwin are the SAME INSIDE, but have different paint jobs and part numbers.
