Pulled this off of the Pilot last week and finally got around to cutting it. Much oil came out when cut. I was impressed. Sturdy can. Strong spring. Pulling the filter off of the seal, there was no oil on the end cap where the seal made contact. Seal nice and pliable. Pleats are even, it's hard to tell I rotated the filter while taking pictures. No tears.

I will use this brand again.

I am awaiting response from them on the poor filters I received.
No word yet. I won't be using them or Hastings.

I tried them a few times but won't use them again. They're built like a tank but I can't get past the poor efficiency ratings compared to other filters. IIRC, if this is cellulose media, those have an unimpressive 70%-something efficiency at 40 microns. Their mixed media filters are in the 80% range and they have nothing above 90% AFAIK.

I bought four Baldwins from Zoro. Three had the short center tube issue. I returned two and have the other two. One I cut open has excess glue which covers the center tube end, the other has the gap at the bottom of the center tube. The edge is ragged so I am not putting that on my engine. I also saw the thread was tilted to the base.
How does the center tube on the ADBV end look on this one?

I just looked it over, everything inside looks perfect. (It's still sitting in the big funnel draining out, I usually leave stuff for a week to keep the oil out of the landfills).

I have two more new B1402's, they look good, too.

Just looked over my 3 new Hastings LF107's... different design.

On the Hastings, the ADBV is in the same place, covering the outer ring of inlet holes just like the Baldwin, but the coil spring is between the baseplate and the center tube. There is metal inner can between the coil spring and the outer circumference of the can, so the design is OK as far is separating inlet and outlet oil. Beyond that I can't see any problems, I will cut the can, but only after I use it. That'll probably be a year from now.

It could be that Baldwin has that problem with that one filter, or set of filters sharing that particular center tube. Right now I what I have looks good and I'll use them, but I'll cut every one when done.

Filter efficiency is another matter. I know not to make any judgments just by looking and guessing. I'll see what I can find out.

I just called Hastings/Baldwin/Clarkor and spoke to Dale in Engineering, who was very helpful. I asked about the filters I have, and one filter (just for comparison) for the Honda S2000, a car I wish I had.

Looking at these numbers, I suspect they choose media based on flow efficiency first, and matching or beating OEM filtration second. They may not be Ultra specs, but I am comfortable with these numbers.

LF107 (Dodge Dakota)
filter efficiency
30 micron absolute (98.7%)
14g capacity
200PSI

Casite CF107 specs same as LF107
Could have construction differences.

LF240 (Honda Pilot)
45 micron absolute (98.7%)
11g capacity
255PSI burst pressure rating

Baldwin B1402 (Honda Pilot)
45 absolute
11g capacity
265PSI burst pressure rating

Honda S2000 (wish I had one of these)
LF523
40 micron absolute (98.7%)
8g capacity
200PSI burst pressure rating

It's hard to see the gap on some. If the bypass could be removed it would be easier to check down in, or maybe cutting away the media at the bottom. I bought two then months later two more and three had the center tube not fully sealed at the bottom. On small clean engines it probably works OK. I still don't like the idea or ragged edge left exposed on the center tube bottom. This a picture I tried to take it's very hard to see though, some were a lot more than this that I sent back.

This one looks to be a stout well made filter. In my observation Baldwin knows how to do louvers, seem to have consistent QC in that respect. Based on available information including that posted in this thread, not noted for their efficiency. However, using available data points for some oem, particularly the Asian filters, Baldwin would be comparable. And not too long ago, someone posted that at least one application was now using a silicone adbv now. I do like their overall construction type.

All that said, I don't buy filters in quantity because I don't use them fast enough. Baldwin not readily available and generally some shipping charge to add without big order.

Thanks for c&p.

What oil and filter went back in and on? Thank You sir👍

That was back in 2017... digging up my notes, that change was Mobil 1 5w-20 and a Baldwin, and the next Valvoline SynPower 5w30 and a Baldwin. The Valvoline was from some crazy pricing mistake, Walmart I think, 3 5-qt jugs for $25.

The Honda is long gone. The engine was still in excellent condition at 214K miles, it was the transmission that took it out. Many fond memories of everything, except the fuel economy.
