I use Purolator Plus oil filters for many cars. 88 Dynasty, 96 Neon and sometimes the 02 Intrepid.
Dynasty (or the Die Nasty as we call it), and Neon take the same filter 3614 I think. Dynasty is making a racket when starting up and I remembered when changing the oil and filter a week ago, the prefilling of the oil filter seemed weird. Like no resistance towards filling it up. Usually the prefill take a little time for the media to soak up the new oil.

Anyway, I just swapped out the filter with a NAPA silver and whalla, no start up knock.

The PP filter literally poured the oil remaining out to the catch pan. No resistance at all.

I still will try PP oil filters because of the good price, but...

The Napa Silver filter has no better ADBV than the PP. You got a bad one -- diagnosed it properly & the problem was corrected. I like filters with silicone ADBVs... ie... Napa Golds. I pay $3.50 for mine at fleetfilter.com. You just need to buy several to deflect the shipping costs. Multiple cars - friends - neighbors - relatives are good sources to help increase buying volume there. Either that or venture into a few air filters.

the NAPA guy originally gave me a gold. At $6.50 and I asked if he had silver. He did for $3.05 including tax. I agree that Gold is a great Wix filter. Just pinching my pennies is all. Die Nasty is one of the daughters cars. 88 still has a good body and has over 110,000 on it. I do change it more often that I should. At 2K with Havoline, but, every time I change the oil I figure I got another 2,000 miles out of the car.
