I've hurt my back from lifting wrong back in March and thought I had recovered, but I guess not because I did it again three weeks ago. The second time was worse and I hate to say was just from aggressively whacking weeds with a garden hoe! I'm more on the skinny side vs. heavy but now in 60's so I guess old age is showing up.

Now I am looking on Amazon for options for a back support or belt. I'm thinking of going with a "Mueller Sports Medicine Lumbar Back Brace" like this picture below but I've never worn one before so thought I would ask for any suggestions or recommendations. Like maybe this example is to wide?

I plan to put it on when leaning over the vehicle engine bays and doing other work around the house that requires lifting, etc.

As an aside, I never comprehended how debilitating it is when your back goes out. The first few days were horrible: not being able to stand up, struggling to move, and my god those sharp stabbing pains. Now three weeks out I've improved greatly, with mostly just dull and a few mild pains every now and then. I would not wish this on anyone and hope to avoid this situation again...

I recommend the style with "double flap velcro closures AND the shoulder straps so you can pop it open and take a breather without having to set it down somewhere.

I believe the weight lifters belt you pictured is limited. The one I mentioned is taller and just plain "more" in every dimension.

In the meantime...and for the rest of your life, I respectfully suggest yoga as pat of your recovery.
Weakened muscles are, in this layman's opinion, the reason we rip up the ones we do use.
Yoga will stretch you and immediately tell you where your weakened/damaged muscles are.
You exercise around them so not to hurt them. Those weak muscles will catch up. You'll be surprised.

"Nothing hurts like back problems" <<More than a general description, a lifestyle for many. Don't be one of them.
