Brad,

thanks for posting the photos.

I've always used conventional and have had many cars go 200k plus and one is right at 310k and ALL are still going.

Its nice to see some FACTS that running conventional oil is NOT going to sludge your engine. Even if you ran the OCI to 5k your engine will be the same.

Nice and clean, well protected.

I get sick and tired of all the "experts" here with if you run anything other than syn, your engine will be sludged, tired, leak, get poor MPG and self destruct.

If you post a used oil analysis here using syn and everything is good, syn is excellent. If you post the same or better used oil analysis using conventional, you can't trust a $20 used oil analysis or the lab is messed up.

Sorry to get on a rant,

but I love your photos. But we will get many who feel since you have a "simple" engine or live someplace that they don't, they MUST run syn or the above WILL happen.

Take care, Bill

And the final piece of the puzzle. Are you a careful driver. That could be an important factor in why you engine looks so clean inside.

I agree about conventionals. My car has always used conventional oil at 5k/6 month intervals and it looks nice and clean under the valve cover and runs like a top.

My experience here is far and away the majority would agree running almost any SM rated conventional to the OCI's this gentleman has would not result in sludge buildup nor produce any detriment to the motor.

The least you could do is properly characterize what the people you are sick and tired of are actually saying.

I totally agree with teven7492; keep doing what you have been doing.

Auto RX is completely unnecessary given the cleanliness of your engine. IMO you have proved that short OCIs with conventional oil are the way to go for longevity.

Bill, that is quite a rant. It is evident, as you've said many times, that you've had good results using non-synthetic oils. That really should be no surprise. I think you're seriously overstating the positions taken by some of the "experts" who seem to irritate you so. Ironically, the visual facts presented by the O/P do not prove that running conventional oil will not sludge your engine (not that I think it will, any oil will, especially if used improperly; and any oil can prevent such if used correctly). This is one happy case that is simply consistent with the obvious proposition that if you take proper care of your engine, you will be rewarded accordingly.

But as you will agree, that we have seen so many people who think since they are running syn all things that are bad will not happen to them. Since they are not cheap and spending the $$ on *real* oil.

I came to this board with experience of many years and unlike most here, have run both because I have had an open mind. Posted the results. Spent the $$ to share and show that running syn vs conventional in most engines there is no benefit to spending the $$.

I've seen posters here just state one brand only.
I've seen posters have in their tag line "xxxxx always" while they answer that brand.

You have never seen me state only one brand you must run. Why, because there are many brands out there that do the job.

Are there better brands than other? Most of the time, no.

Bottom line, IF YOU follow the MFG OCIs with good oil and take care of your car, your engine will be protected and run well for as long as your going to keep it. (and I keep cars for a long time, so I am not your beat the c r a p and not maintain to sell a problem off to someone else person. I treat all cars with respect (incl rentals) because someone is spending their hard earned $$ to have their wife and kids SAFELY transported around).

If I was posting saying syn only here, I guess I would not have any issues I guess.
dunno.gif

I buy and use syn if there is a NEED or if the cost is low.

There are others here who will never run conventional because its a trash oil and their engines get the best. And they change it every 3-5k because thats better!

I want new people who find this site to get the truth. This board is quoted many times on other boards for the facts.

Sadly, there are many threads here that have no facts.

Thanks for the reply and take care, Bill

Just for sh*** and giggles. Go to ebay motors and look up the ranger and 2.3 motor in the vehicles for sale section. See how many miles people get out of these things. You can neglect them and still hit 200k. I have a 1994 I sold to a buddy down the street he is just past 200k now.
