So I am planning on changing out the battery in the Accord, its been turning over slow for a while now, hopefully its just the battery. I think the "gold" or whatever at Auto Zone is there top battery, are they any good?

Read many good things about the Duralast GOLD! I guess they're as good as any in their catigory

I would test the battery first. Im on the original and it seemed to turn enough before starting. I had it tested and its still good...im guessing age might be getting to it though..it started at -24 celsius so I wont bother. Im sure you will test yours before changing it.

I had it tested a month ago, they said it was a little low but still able.

I have installed alot of Autozone's Pro series batteries. They are the solid black not red or gold top. Have had good results out of those.

Be aware that the standard autozone battery has a 2 year warranty, the gold has a 3 year replacement and 2 year prorate for only a few dollars more.

All the batteries these days are the same, buy the warranty not the battery.

AZ in the past has been good all you need is your phone number for a warranty claim.

Also upgrade to the gold.

I checked Consumer Reports but they don't rate group 51R batteries. However Duralast scored fairly well in the other group sizes. If you're a Costco member, their batteries can be a great deal, we've got them in our cars.

Check to see if your battery tray can fit a 24 series battery like the V6 accords rather than the 51 that the 4 cyl gets

AGM isnt all that important in non-enclosed locations. Thermally-induced ageing, which all lead acid batteries are very succeptible to is the bigger issue... And AGM doesnt fare better.

I agree on costco.

I also think I read, perhaps on interstate.com that they had batteries optimized for hotter vs colder climates. Batteries arent just batteries, and often they are regionally varied, so in FL that may be a consideration...

Interstate does have the hotter and colder climate batteries.

I prefer the AGM because they seem to charge back up much quicker than standard lead.

Autozone batteries are Johnson Controls. Same exact batteries as Wal-Mart, Advance, Costco, etc. The only difference is the label.

If you're buying at Autozone for your Accord, get the Duralast 56-DL. It requires NO mods to anything in your engine bay or battery tray, it'll fit right into the place where the weak 51R fit, and you'll get almost 600cca instead of ~450. It'll cost ~$100 and it'll be the best replacement battery you can get that'll be an exact fit.

I put a Duralast Gold in the wife's Sienna a year ago. No problems yet, I believe the battery is made by Johnson Controls. The original battery (also JC)was still in that van, lasted 10 years. Hope to get that kind of age out of this new one! Like a true BITOG'er I used oil rebate cards to make the battery free. LIKEY!

Advance Auto Parts. Johnson Control just like AutoZone, Walmart, Costco, Interstate...

Buy online, pick up in store. Use discount code TRT41 to save $40 off $100

Standard batteries are fine. Cramming more lead and plates into the same physical case is not better. Modern cars do not need 700CCA to turn over. Batteries were half that 50 years ago cranking 400+ cubic inch, high compression, carbed engines.

How did you conclude that? Incorrectly I might add. Walmart MAXX was number 1 in Consumer Reports testing for most group sizes.

How do you know that? They could all be JCI batteries but are they all the same quality?

Batteries differ from place to place, they are built to the retailers specs, you will see batteries from the same manufacter perform at all levels depending on what the goal of the retailer is. The gold battery at autozone is a great battery, I sold them for 15 years. There are others out there, the weight of a battery can tell you a lot, lead is the most expensive part of the process.
