All the inline filters, like the Magnefine, have bypasses. Read their literature. I've seen them cut apart even if noone has posted pictures. They're small pleated filters and some have a additonal magnets.

Yes. I hacked one apart. Nice wire reinforced pleated filter. It had metal endcaps and a washer size magnet was against one end. It had a bypass valve in it. Very neat construction.

They also come in 1/2" and are a Ford part number.

It sorta looked like this with flat ends and the washer/magnet just was stuck there.

can you elaborate on these screens. what are they like coarse window screen or some super tight mesh of stainless or what.

Look at a transmission filter for a 1991-1995 Ford Escort with the 4EAT automatic if you want to see a mesh screen filter.

As I recall, the holes were probably 1/16" in diameter. I bought one because I was going to change the filter, took one look at it, came to the conclusion that if this filter ever got clogged to the point of needing replacement the transmission is toast anyway, so I never replaced it. I probably still have that filter laying around here..I never returned it. It cost $30, too.
