We have a 2011 A4 20.T, and I'm having a hard time finding reasonably-priced oil that meets the VW/Audi 502.00 standard. Has anyone used Shell Rotella 5W40? Seems to meet about every other standard in the world, and I can't imagine it being a problem in the A4, but curious if anyone had any experience with it.

Thanks.

A lot of turbo Subaru owners use it. However I would stick with an approved oil for the warranty period. Mobil 1 0W-40 in on the shelves at AAP as is Castrol 5W-40; I think that is approved also. AAP has a "5 quarts of Mobil + filter" sales once in a while; stock up. IMHO

Rotella T6 5W-40 is heavier than necessary and is inferior in that regard to Mobil 1 0W-40.
It's hard to beat Mobil 1 0W-40 for it's suitability and value.
Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5w30 or 5W-40 would be an option.

Mobil 1 0W-40 is preferred. Meets all Euro Specs. Walmart and Meijer every day price is ~$6.69/Qt. Some times Oreilly's has it $4.99/Qt on sale. Advance Auto had all Mobil 1 formulas on sale last November for $3.99/Qt.

One of the big auto chain parts stores always has Mobil 1 oil change specials be it AAP, Oreillys, Autozone, Pepboys usually for $30-$35 for 5Qts + Mobil 1 filter.

Watch the specials at Advance, Autozone or OReilly's. They have deals fairly often for 5 quarts of Castrol Syntec 5W40 (VW502) and a filter for around $30. I prefer the Mann OEM filter for the A4 and use the filter that comes as part of the oil special on our RX330. Also, like bodeh6 says, you can find the Mobil 1 0W40 specials for about the same amount.

I'll have to check further at some of the auto parts stores. Local WalMarts don't carry that weight.
