ATF for 2016 Ford Focus AT transmission?

My friend's 2016 Focus has 130K and has never been serviced.
I guess it takes Dual Clutch fluid?

Can I use Motul or Valvoline? 2 quart capacity? Any tips are appreciated.

I have a 2017 with the dual clutch transmission. Rock Auto had the OEM Motor craft DCT fluid for ~26$ a quart last time I checked. Only need 1.7 quarts, so I went with OEM. I also hear there is a GM syncromesh friction modified fluid that is good for higher mileage vehicles. Mines gets an occasional gear grinding downshifting to second, so I will use that fluid next change.

You can use any brand DCT fluid that has the relevant standard on it, which I think for your car is M2C200-D2

I had 1 shot of Motorcraft dual clutch. Or maybe it was 2? Then the Amsoil dual clutch twice. I'm using the Redline dual clutch now. I have a 2016 Focus with the 5 speed MT. It takes the same fluid. I could not tell the difference between the Motorcraft, and the Amsoil. The Redline dual clutch seemed to help with notchy shifting. I don't think there was a big difference in price.

Tread carefully with these transmissions… they are very unreliable.

I’m going against the grain here and would only suggest OEM fluid. I know it’s nothing special but for the price of some of the aftermarket fluids, you may as well.

Yes the auto/manual 6 speed trans has issues, but it is not related to using a decent fluid. I have the manual 5M. I don't think any good quality fluid will be an issue. The fluid does not have to be OE. But if I had that trans, I would probably try different fluids like I did with my 5M. Maybe a certain fluid might help with help some. You don't know If you don't try.


Also when I bought the Amsoil at the time it was cheaper than the Motorcraft.
I have used a lot of fluids that were not OE. Like 99.999% of the time. Don't be sucked in by the fear.........
