I will shortly be doing ATF fluid change (dropping the pan) on my 03' Ford Focus (2.3L). I plan on using Mobil 1 ATF.

My question is: I have heard the the gasket on the above Ford transmission is permanent. Is this true? The Motorcraft ATF filter does not come with a gasket....like other filter kits do.

Appreciate any knowledgeable comments...especially from Focus owners and/or mechanics.

I can't specically speak for the focus, but the gasket on the 4R75W in my 04 F-150 is reusable. It's probably a good guess that Ford used them in the cars as well. I have done a pan drop atf change on my truck twice and reused the gasket and it doesn't leak, so if yours is reusable I wouldn't worry about that. Hope this helps.

it should be the reusable with metal sandwiched between 2 layers of the rubbery type material.

much preferred over the rubber only type.

if you for some reason need a new one napa sells them.

make sure you have a 1/4" drive torque wrench and follow the tightening procedure or you will have leaks.

In many cases the gasket is reuseable, however, if it is over 5 years old, replace it, it may not hold when reused at that point.

And if such a gasket exists, OEM is best.
