Changed out my 2nd rinse phase oil last week after 2800 miles. Oil was dirty, but not like tar. Car is 198K 92 eclipse.
The car is quieter. Pulled a lot harder. So, everything is great.
I got lifter tick the first 50 miles with fresh oil. I found out these Eclipses (commonly called DSM) are very prone to ticking. So, no biggie there. I just added 1oz (very little) of Lucas Oil Stabilizer to thicken the oil just a little. Now not ticking. Engine was very quiet & nice. Now the car is 300 miles post ARX.
The oil leak [pour] (used to be about 1 qt every 250 miles). Now slowing & slowing & slowing. So, I'm sure it'll stop in another 2K or so.
Currently 300 miles post ARX with fresh SuperTech oil. The car had leaked about 1/4 quart in 300 miles. So, ARX slowed the leak quite a bit.
Even if it does not stop the leak completely, I don't mind 1 qt every 1500-2000 miles or so. After all it's a 12 year old which I put 130K in 4 years.
1 qt 250 miles it had before was darn wasteful and because of that I had to use cheapest oil OTC; SuperTech.
Now I don't mind putting in synthetic after this oil is out.
Still, I think since I'm changing every 2500-3000 miles, 90% of the miles are highway and car has 198K, SuperTech (with SuperTech filter) would do just fine.
I think my temporary obsession (my wife calling it my mistress is the clue
) with car & oil needs to take a break
and concentrate on working WITH my car (my consulting work requires a LOT of travel). Lucky for me, this car is taking us to everywhere (tahoe, san francisco, vegas) she's not complaining that much
.
