That's interesting. Is it NextGen Premium Blue diesel oil? I understand that Valvoline sells some oils Down Under that they don't over here.

Check my sig.
Maxlife 10W-40 seems to be the optimal oil for the old e36.
I had a very good 4K UOA of Maxlife Nextgen SN 10W-40, and consumption and leaks are greatly reduced with Maxlife.
I also used this oil in the Impreza, because I had it and I thought it might reduce leaks and consumption.
It has.
The Forester had a brief 3K run on QSGB 10W-40 SL, because I had it, it was appropriate to the temperature range encountered per the OM and I wanted to do a short run after draining the FF at 1K before moving on to a synthetic.
Both of the Accords have done short runs of various 10W-40s, since I had the oil and wanted to get some use out of it.
Both cars seemed very smooth and quiet on forty grades and fuel economy didn't suffer noticeably.

Statoil (synthetic) 5W-40 in my 96-Nissan Micra 1.0. Plan on 7.5K run (or once a year change).

The 30 weights are all over the map; some are very good, but some show elevated wear metals.
If you're running an xxW-40, what kind of car do you have?

My car in my sig runs 0W-40 by factory spec, and is allowed 15w-50 via TSB.

Otherwise I only run 40w when the engines in our fleet trucks get old and start to use oil.

'96 Camry 3.0L V-6, 283,000 mi. Mobil-1 HM 10W-40
'03 Tundra 4.7 V-8, 134,000 mi. Mobil-1 TDT 5W-40
'08 Tacoma 2.7L I-4, 71,000 mi. Mobil-1 TDT 5W-40
'10 Camry 3.5L V-6, 29,000 mi. Mobil-1 5W-30 (still in warranty)

All 4 operate in hot summers. Dusty environment. Very rural, high-speed highway and dirt/mud roads. Pickups both 4WD & used for towing. Old Camry still used for 750 mile trips @ 75-80 MPH with no oil usage, 5-7,000 mile OCI.

I have always run 10w40 in my beaters since spinning a bearing BAD running a 180k mile Camry on 5w30. The Yugo gets 20w50, as it only runs in the summer, gets revved a lot, and called for 15 or 20w40 from the factory.

Delvac 1 ESP 5w-40 in my 04 Forester XT 2.5L turbo @ 80,000 mi/130,000 km - uses no oil - will be switching to Rotella T6 5w-40 after i get through this 5gal drum

Motul 300V Chrono 10w-40 in my 98 Skyline 2.5L naturally asp. @ 55,000 mi/88,000 km - uses no oil

40w oils are preached high and low in aus, 5w-30 seems to be more prevalent in smaller capacity 4cyl cars ie. hondas, small toyotas etc...

I use Anglomoil GEO550 5w40 in my turbo soarer, it's great. High calcium, zinc and 11tbn. Full synth and $45/5l ( when bought by the 20l)

In my bike I have run delo 400 15w40, but may use Alglomoil roadmaster gold 15w50 next change (it's air cooled, xr500). Also have used the delo in fiiends cars, especially cars hivh have been neglected and need a clean up.

I have a mate who uses Roadmaster 300 hddeo 15w40 in his Nissan patrol, it's similar to delo (JASO DH1, just like the [censored] diesels require) and costs $110 for 20l. I plan to buy some for doing friends cars.

15w40 is probably the most popular grade on Aus. Yeah we seem to have a preoccupation with heavy oils.

1989 BMW 535/5speed with M30 (3.4-liter (3430 cc) SOHC inline 6-cylinder) w/ 167k+ on the clock. I have been running Mobil1 0w-40 for about 1000 miles with no consumption or other known problems.

Just switched to G Oil 5W-30 in the Grand Marquis, but I've always run Liqui Moly Synthoil High Tech 5W-40 in it. Done great, and will switch over to PU Euro 5W-40 next oil change. The Mitsubishi runs on that at the moment and I'm very pleased with it.

Hi,
Merkava_4 - I've used M1 0W-40 in most of my engine4s for the last decade or so. At least three Benzes, two Porsches and others including Mitsubishis

I've used 5W-40 lubricants in a wides avriety of engines from 14ltr Detroits (90kkms avg OCI) to Subarus, BMW and Benz petrol and diesel engines - and also in at least two Porsche 928 V8s

Most of my UOAs are on BITOG. OCI's have been out to around two years and around 20kkms - or as Warranty allows

My sig, MB will be switched to stash of 10w40 Kendall with titanium (and some HM blends and leftovers from other changes) and annual OCI, since it's not driven much.
Bimmer will get Synthetic stash: Lubro Moly from sig and Motul LL-04, which should last for 2 changes, then prob M1 0w40.
