Who here has run any of their vehicles out to 10K even just once?

Why did you? What oil did you use?

My 96 Saturn will have 10K by the end of the week, and a subsequent UOA. Wanted to see if I *could* go that long w/o changing my oil. M1 0w-20.

Several times. Can I include "over 1 year" in there too?

D1 for 10k and 12.5k
RTS twice for 13 months (about 9.5k)

My 6 month deal with my wife's jeep means 9k

I've been distracted with experiments which are usually 5k in length.

Yes, in my wife's '04 Mercedes-Benz ML350. It has over 9k miles on the current fill of GC. It holds 8.5 qt's. I will change it at 10k, which will be in a few weeks. Changing out that much GC any sooner would be a waste, IMO.

The oil has been in service since July '07. FWIW, I'm using a Wix filter.

yep.

02 mazda miata has been on 10k OCI since 5k on the clock, currently at 109k. have taken it out to 15k twice when i was called away on 2 day jobs that went 2 months instead. uses about a qt in 10k.

00 toyota tundra V-8 running 10k OCI since about 30k. currently 123k on the clock and uses NO oil between OC. have run this one out to 13k once with 0w-20, OA is on the board.

05 Porsche Cayenne S ran 20k OCI until 66k when they had to take it back under the lemon law (good riddance).

all of the above are using M1 0w-40 and a M1 filter. my FX45 is currently on 0w-40 and 7.5k OCI until it runs out of warranty, then it goes to 10k.

My 88 Mazda 323 saw everything from 15k to 25k mile OCIs (one year intervals) on Amsoil 10w40 (that was in the mid-1990's). At the end of that it saw a couple of one year OCIs at 13k (if I remember correctly) on M1 15w50. (this car is now my grocery getter.)

My 98 Sienna has seen 8-9 mo OCIs that ran between 8 and 10k (M1 10w30). Have now switched to Schaeffer.

My mom's 98 Taurus did an exactly one year OCI last year (approx. 10k) on M1 EP 10w30 and returned a stellar UOA from Blackstone. It's presently doing a 1 yr OCI on M1 0w40 (w/ one makeup qt of M1 HM 10w40). This is now her fourth or fifth year on strictly 1 year OCIs (Mobil 1 all the way. M1 & PureOne filters). She doesn't know any better, so she trust me.

Heck, I ran oilBabe's Camry OVER 10K miles with the 15K Mobil One formula.

Didn't invest in an UOA, just changed the oil after about 12or13K miles.

I've stopped doing this only because at over 180K miles, it's starting to consume oil and leak. So it's now 5K intervals for three seasons and synthetic in the winter so I don't have to change the oil in the dead of winter.

However, even that may change with the new home and three car garage

I have run Mobil 1 for at least a decade out to as far as 12,000 miles in many cars. UOA still showed the oil to be able to go on longer, except one UOA of a Chevy 5.3 at 11,500 showing it could not.

Oil leaks and consumption on a 2AZ-FE?

Where is it leaking from?

routinely... M1 mainly, though some elf excellium, some redline, and now some amsoil SSO.

Out of 9 cars, 7 are part of the 10k club, the others are seldom used, so they get once a year.

JMH

I've generally been going 10k-12k mile drains with M1 and now Amsoil.

Just ran my first 10k OCI on the wife's 07 Highlander. Doing the same on my daughter's 05 Highlander. Amsoil ATM10w30 and Amsoil full flow filters on both. UOA on 07 looked pretty good per Pablo. Going to 12k next go around.

The oil pan gasket. Not enough to bother with. It's about a quart every 2500 to 3000 miles. I can buy a lot of oil for what it would cost to address leaks/consumption at this rate.

It doesn't appear that difficult to replace. I have the service manual and could send it to you.

I would correct the problem only because it reflects poorly on yourself to be driving around a car that leaks oil.

beginners...my friends and in laws routinely go 20, 000 miles on cheapest oil they can find

With the new home, I have more pressing issues like installing a closet system and making room in the three car garage for actually having three cars.

Since I don't get drops on my new driveway, I don't think the leak is of the same scale as the consumption.

Not to mention, the Prizm needs a new power steering hose, as that is leaking enough now to produce the occasional drop on the driveway :)

Inadvertently (or rather stupidly), as a teenager. I owned an '83 Buick Skyhawk Limited (my very first car), from Oct '86-Jan '89. One oil change was done in Sept '87. You can guess the results in Jan '89. Boom.

Being the King of Procrastination, I kept putting off the changes every week until weeks turned into months turned into years.

It was an expensive lesson to learn.

I am on my '06 LuCerne with the Northstar and 7.5 qt crankcase. Running a mixture of Kendall 10w30 and TropArtic. The GM OLM still shows 23% oil life after about 9800 miles. Its coming out next weekend.
