After doing some searching on this site I have seen several posts mention that the PF47s and PF46s filters are Ecore filters. I recently order both the above filter models along with the UPF44 in bulk from an online ACD distributor. I did this before I new that most people do not think foundly of the new Ecore design. Just to double check the filters to verify they are Ecores I decided to peer into them and noticed that both models have steel cores. I was under the impression that the Ecores had plastic cores. Is there a way to tell if they are Ecores without cutting one open and wasting a new filter or are these not Ecore models?

I hate to not use these filters. All feedback is greatly appreciated.

For the PF47, AC Delco Part 19256042 is the classic design, Part #19210284 is the Ecore design. Newer stock for the Ecore version is marked PF47E.

Look down the center tube, if you see steel, it's the classic design, if you see a plastic (nylon?) ribcage, then it's the Ecore version.

Thanks!

PN:
PF46 - 19256041
PF47 - 19256042

Both have metal cores so I guess I have the classic design. I didn't realize they made two different models.
