The last time I used AC Delcos regularly was in the mid 90s when I used PF-35s and PF-45s. I used ACs sporadically afterwards on other engines, but I got tired of looking for the "good" ACs. I started using Purolators and Motorcrafts and haven't looked back.
Are AC Delco filters taking a dump?

How many people have a clue what is inside an oil filter? What if the only filter they ever saw the guts to was a Fram that got ran over, or blew off when somebody put a big orange can on without a bypass where needed?quote:

Frankly, I suspect the AC Champ Ecores you might pick up somewhere, still likely have more filter area than the ST. STP, Purolator, Hastings, and Fram as I found in the past pre Ecore. They are also more likely to have a thread end bypass, and be made in America.
When someone bashes a product as garbage, despite the fact that they are totally clueless, while others just soak it like a sponge... I don't think you were too hard on them. Read the thread subject line, that says it all. They even lament the downturn in quality of other Delco products randomly, as though the ecores destroyed AC Delco's line of spark plugs and stuff. Nobody even challenged it. They just boo hoo about how they used to believe, and now their dream is broken.
1977 was smart by asking here before he made up his own mind.

Not a problem. I've been on both boards for some time now. Like many others, I got educated on this board on oil filters and such. Great place to bring questions, thats why I came here first.
I bought a case of PH1218 Delcos about 8 months ago off one of the Chevy dealer sellers on eBay. They are the older version, not the new plastic E-core ones. I'd never heard of an e-core until I came asking. Sometimes, just because something is different, doesn't make it bad. Guess time will tell if the ecore is any good or not. Glad I have a case of oldies and a Frantz on all my chevies! LOL

After cutting open an Ecore filter used for 10,000 miles on a toyota, I am confident they are going to work just fine. Very similar to the design VW has been using on several filters for years now.. I'm using the supertech 3614.. The truck has 240K on it, burns or leaks about 1qt every 10K.
