April lubricants industry market update.

Changed it to "imply warranty implications".

There must be 1000's of BITOG threads over the years where people start out by saying "I use xw-xx because they tell me too and I am scared to use anything else "

Its an implied threat. The auto industry makes billions off the milquetoast using fear tactics and implied threats. Perception is a real thing and a lot of people are afraid to go against the corporations. Just fact.

I could care less about CAFE anymore...we all know the numbers are manipulated by the automakers and the government knows this as well but as long as they can publish their report about how good we're doing...its wonderful. I wonder how many CAFE employees put thicker oil in their cars? Shirley they do because they know its a game.
The automaker is required to use language that strongly dissuades someone from using any oil grade that wasn't the one tested for fuel economy. I've posted EPA award letters here before and this type of intimidation must be used.

It's not directly the manufacturers. They are doing what they are required to do.

If nothing else, this should at least prove interesting for the end-of-the-year brand rankings in the "Post your latest oil change" thread.

There was some previous discussion on this thread regarding Dexos specification and questions / speculation on what would happen. It appears SOPUS has removed the Dexos 1 Gen 3 label on 0w20 Pennzoil Platinum and 0w20 Quaker State Full Synthetic oils and their data sheets.

I heard Amsoil hoovered up all the base stock in order to push prices higher
I heard the moon is made of blue cheese, then I read it on the internet.

Seriously though, there is a shortage of base stocks world wide. AMSOIL competes in the global marketplace and may have been willing to pay more than others, so they got more than others. I don't believe AMSOIL would have any desire to push prices higher on base stocks or finished products. Nor did they get all of the base stocks.

I missed the /sarc. I have added it.

But actually, I heard they were hiding it in some dude's basement near the Canadian border, and they were going to smuggle it out through a tunnel they were digging.
