Anything such as a "trained" engine from factory?

I called Toyota customer helpline regarding them recommending 10,000 miles oil changes when using synthetic oils for 2011 and 2012 model years

http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pag...etic-motor-oil

I was really surprised to hear that for the model year 2009 and 2010 the oil change interval is still 5000 miles even with synthetic oil even though they are the exact same engine. Here is the kicker, the reason I was given for this difference is because the 2011 and 2012 cars come with synthetic from the factory and in that they are "trained" to work with synthetic oils?!? The customer rep said I can use synthetic, but I still have to change the oil at 5000 miles...does this make any sense at all?!?

Because apparently they have made minor but significant changes to those models to accommodate the longer interval.

This could be as simple as programming the engine control computer. Or it could mean physical changes internally.

Just another massacre of the English language.
There is a thread where the garage has "clients", same deal.
They probably wanted to say the newer engines are resigned, not trained.

As a non native English speaker i have to wonder where some people went to school.

He was actually an American. The main difference between the 2009 and 2012 being that the 2012 is filled with synthetic at the factory...I still don't know why that would make any difference being that they both use the 2ZR-FE engine.

You meant "redesigned" right?

An ironic post.

It's not ironic to mis-type. To use the word "trained" is idiotic on the other hand.

Maybe he meant to say that the car as a whole and the car as a project was calibrated (including programming of software that controls emissions and OLM and budgeting for warranty claims) for synthetic oil and a 5,000 interval.

He was probably trained to say it the way he did because the way I worded it would confuse the common consumer and put them in a bad mood.

Of course it's not ironic to mis type. It is ironic though if when talking about misuse of language, you end up using the wrong word.

I mistyped and it was to late to edit.
Please accept my deepest apologies!

Hey it wasn't an issue at all.

The engines decided to resign because they didn't want to be trained!

He also forgot to capitalize the personal pronoun, not that it matters but I'm just piling on...

It is ironic for grammar-police to use bad grammar...
