Anyone upgraded to Windows 11

Something I posted in another Windows 11 upgrade thread:

- Download and install the latest BIOS for your computer
- If it's a Dell or HP or whatever, run the full hardware diagnostic at POST
- If that's not an option, at least run the Windows Memory Diagnostic
- Uninstall any non-Microsoft security software
- Run Disk Cleanup and Defragment and Optimize Drives
- Run a command prompt as administrator and run sfc /scannow and chkdsk c: /f

That should give you the best chance for success and tune things up a little while you're at it.

every PC in the house has been pushed to windows 11. out of the 10 only 3 meet official windows 11 specs. i love windows 11 versus 10. it is a straight upgrade in my mind.

I had a couple of laptops bought new a few years ago and allowed them to update to Win11 when it was time.
They simply did not have the systrem resources left over after running Win11 to do much of anything.
if you have a strong machine you wont notice a difference.
If you have a weak one, well all that Microsoft bloatware and spyware adds up.

Except, it must have the graphical bios.
What is the graphical bios? None of mine have a graphical bios and they run Windows 11. Windows 11 has been out for about 4 years so it isn't new. Windows 10 will stop getting updates later this year.

The easiest way is to download the windows 11 iso from Microsoft and then use Rufus to create a bootable install on a USB drive. Rufus will give you an option to skip the hardware check and initial setup crud. I just refreshed my iso on Tuesday since I use it to reimage work PCs all the time. This way does require at least a 8GB USB drive though.

I think there's another way via regedit and CMD prompt but I have not used that and it would be a hassle for my use.
Rufus is the way to go to load windows 11 on unsupported hardware. Lots of good you tube videos showing the how to. Not difficult if you have some computer knowledge. A challenge perhaps if you don't.

Work Dell desktop computer was upgraded to Windows 11. Everything works fine as far as I can tell.
It’s slowly getting better. Our work computers changed over one day. I am finally done hating the new location for Start, gotten used to having to type the name of the program I want run, and I see the ability to make a new text file is back. I think refresh is back for refreshing a folder?

you can put the start menu back over on the left in start menu settings.

But why did it move in the first place? It's a productivity loss when I have to undo the screwups that they put in.

What was the point of changing in the first place--it's been on the left bottom corner for what, 25-30 years?

I know. Because some bored clown could, I suppose.
Irked me to no end. I get it, someone thinks it'd be better over here... thing is, I sit in front of my computer like 8 to 10 hours a day. I get used to a certain flow of things. Chopping everything up does what for my productivity?

Anything else would have some sort of rollout. Training. A memo with a how-to on what is changing. But Windows?

I think of it like this: let's just say, some night someone goes into your office, goes to your desk, and then rearranges everything. If you don't have piles on your desk, they instead go into the drawers and move things around. Same idea. No explanation, no apology.

One of the things I had to do was change the disk format from MBR to GPT. Then it went easy.I have an old HP OJ-8600 printer at least 10 years old, works like a champ with no driver updates (none available anyway). But I used IrfanView frequently for screen grabs/editing, which no longer works. Win 11 has something build in that sucks for that, at least I have a hard time with it.
