Today, one of our LG Gram laptops, running Windows 11 Pro, popped up in the system tray an icon with 2 red arrows.

When clicked, it led to a message that the '.....current version of Windows 11 you are running has reached it's end of life .... download/update to newer version ... ' (paraphrasing)

When 'Check for Updates' is clicked, the only item it downloaded was a new update for Windows Defender but did not offer any link or download to remove this message.

Reading now https://www.lansweeper.com/blog/eol/windows-11-end-of-life/ which I have not yet confirmed as to the version/solution.

Yeah known issue. Windows updates have been a disaster this year. Expect a fix shortly; next week maybe.

Windows 11 Update Assistant downloaded a 4.4 GB update file and Modern Update Host (sic?) started an 'update process'

Download was fast over 1 TB connection but the 'update assistant' module has been working now for an hour.
It shows a message to keep working, save your work often, '...we will boot your pc 30 minutes after this shows 100% complete..." (paraphrasing)

Win11 22H2 EOL was Oct 8th, so that's probably why.

The update assistant has always been a pain and takes super long but the plus side is that you don't need to reimage Win11 like before if you've missed big updates. Expect it to take even longer - probably a better idea to do it over night. If the update assistant is still stuck, you'll have to manually remove everything in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download and try again.

Directory Opus kept track of progress as this was running and it shows $GetCurrent and $WINDOWS.~BT folders created today

Now restarting PC ....

Old version was Win 11 Pro
Build 22000.co-release.210604-1628

New version is
Win 11 Pro Insider Preview
Build 26100.ge_release.240331-1435

Had to re-run Yamicsoft Windows Manager 2.0.7 to remove shortcut shield, shortcut arrow and shortcut to prefix and also to show Windows version on desktop

Now have a new folder, Windows.old, 24..4 GB in C:\

StartAllBack restored all settings to familiar Windows 7/8/10 menu style and Glasswire Premium reported a few modules wanting access (widgets)

My current W10 desktop pc, now 6 or 7 years old, will replace an older W10 desktop computer as my offline computer some time next year. I will get a new PC with W11. I have been using W11 since it came out on my laptop. I have not had any major problems with W10 or W11 but some small annoyances.

Upgraded machine to Windows 11 Enterprise and ran Abelssoft PC Fresh 2025 v11.0.56922 to optimize service settings

All good now.
