anyone started trying to save gas?

I drive slower and find myself coasting to red lights more often now. Only a 12 minute commute to work for me and most of the shopping I do is two blocks away from he so it's not really hitting me at this point. Electricity and natural gas prices haven't gone up much so far hopefully they stay the same. I'm 48 and have most of the things I need at this point, the younger people will feel this the most.

I'm still planning my summer trip.. but, as a whole, no, I won't let it impede me doing what I want to do.

It's summer, so it will be higher.

I still go to the gym and work like usual. Hasn't affected my lifestyle and don't expect to make any changes.

I haven't changed a thing due to my daily driving.
I have a 5 day a week 4.4 mile round trip commute to work and every Saturday i have a 42 mile round trip to go shoot pool.
My old blazer gets 15 MPG but it's paid for so I dont really care.
And the wifes grocery getter car averages 34MPG and in 3 1/2 years she has racked up an astonishing 14,000 miles.
So a tanks lasts her a couple weeks.
But I still dont like $5 a gallon gas.

I'm not going to start hoarding gas, how much can you really hold in your garage legally anyway?

I'm curious to see if demand destruction actually kicks in if we get to $8 - $10 gallon and roads get less crowded.

My tin foil hat theory says prices will only go up until mid terms and possibly beyond, using anything as an excuse ( Putin, Saudi Arabia, hurricanes, etc). Maybe this is a way for the oil companies to elect a oil friendly candidate by twisting the arm of the populace.

Smart thing would be to never book those vacations in the first place, but, staycations and local things will take its place. Central Florida theme parks are one option.

I haven't changed anything. I hate what I'm seeing. Went out on my dads boat yesterday on Lake Erie. Filled up at the marina, 42 gallons at $6.49/GL for 90 octane ethanol free. Not as many people out on the water because of the high fuel cost and it's affecting local businesses that depend on summer tourist.

I think the reason people are still driving fast etc is because cars are more efficient now than ever and people still drive how they drive, I predict a summer of getting run off the road if you drive 5 over. But that's just my prediction.

Maybe when it goes a little higher, but. Even then. Am I seeing less SUVs? Maybe. Haven't been looking....

I'm trying to baby my beat to hell, wrecked 3 times 2014 Nissan Versa Note, it gets 39.5mpg highway. I want to buy new, but the car market is just crazy, if the lots ever fill up, hopefully I can hold out, or I will take a huge depreciation loss buying right now!

My locale still seems to have plenty of diesel powered trucks (maybe 10-12 mpg at best) equipped with coal rolling mods. on the road blowing huge amounts of obnoxious black smoke at traffic lights.

I've seen "3" that like to smoke the tires with some black exhaust smoke and that lovely diesel "turbo spooling up" sound. One I know, the other two I don't.

They drive their vehicles once a week it seems. Maybe not, I don't keep track, but, it's a display of some sort. (Panterra album, maybe?)

And that is exactly why I'll be In Illinois August 6th. I'm honestly genuinely looking forward to it at this point. Maybe even sip a light beer or two as time allows, maybe, maybe. To have as much fun as possible and still be legal etc. Maybe at night.. whatever it takes. Something.

The price of gas won't affect the powerboating that weekend, so. This is kind of a "What are we even talking about here" for me. Yeah, it costs more, yeah.

So nobody has yet said to just buy an EV. So there is hope...

So I’ve long tried to coast to stops, being reasonable about so as to not annoy people behind me, but otherwise avoid taht waste. And now I do try to hit cruise and drive slower when I can—but ”I can’t drive 55” in heavy traffic, someone plays the rabbit and I just have to keep up.

Been wondering about car shopping, maybe a Mirage this time, my 30 mpg car seems so wasteful now. But if I really wanted to save gas i’d move closer to work so i could bike.

I find it interesting in my locale (east central GA), that the roads are still full of vehicles on the weekends, and all the restaurant parking lots seem full, as well as the couple of big box home improvement type stores parking lots as well. I have not really noticed too much of a slow down as far as sales at the auto parts place I work part time at, except that parts/merchandise inventory has been sketchy for some time like many other businesses. New houses ,apartment complexes, and rental storage unit places are still being built all over this area.

As long as they have revolving credit on the good old Visa card, or can get a mortgage for that overpriced 5,000 sqft "McMansion"... people will continue to spend... they cannot cut back on the lifestyle to which they are "entitled"... and so subsidize it with credit... but the piper will need to be paid... and interest rates are rising... I swear we as a country learned nothing from the great recession...
