Mobil says they have started shipping but, I have yet to see them anywhere. I guess it may take some time for them to work through the distribution network and to show up in stores but, from what Mobil said they started shipping in June.

Anyone seen any yet?

There are two Autozone stores along my daily commute and I generally stop by on Monday as they get their trucks in on Friday.

FWIW - I recall in Mobil's Q@A section I believe, that it wasn't necessary to us their new EP line of filters to get the benefit of their EP oils. The standard M1 filters would suffice.

To me it seems they are providing a package product as labled, and probably as lableed only.

Bobio - If I wanted a filter that would just suffice I would stick with the Motorcraft FL820S. This site is all about trying new things and striving for more from our oil.

I don't think so. Someone did a survey awhile back and quite a few BITOG'rs were using some the cheapest filters on the market (maybe 30% of the people who responded). To top that, almost none are doing particle counts with their UOAs to find out if the filter is doing a decent job.

Looking for the best filter? I don't think so.

I bet you order the same thing every time you go to a restaurant, don't you

<------member #5879 is guilty of over-spending on super-expensive M1 filters, when others would work as well for less $$$.

I also stopped by my local Autozone in Oregon and they didn't know anything about it. The front clerk told me that they weren't worth it since they need more oil.

Hmmmmm....

Did you see the UOA with particle count of a Mobil 1 filter going 5,000+ miles? The oil was amazingly clean and free of particles. The oil was as clean as hydrolic oil with a bypass filter.

Wasting your $$$, maybe not!

Can you please provide a link? Thanks.

Did you ask the clerk how he knew that if he's never seen the filter?

What makes the clerk think the M1 will change size and become "larger" when it becomes the new EP version?

That's an interesting point, Filter guy. I have also been under the assumption that the new EP filters would be larger. I guess we'll just have to wait & see.

FWIW, I checked my local AZ this morning; no new filters yet.

PEP Boys/Mobil, are trying to get rid of the older stock by offering a rebate if you purchase Mobil 1 or Mobil 7500.

I have seen the 'new' Extended Performance' filters at the AOCA convention in New Orleans in May. Belive it or not, the on-hand Mobil reps didn't know much about them, but I suspect that the EP filters are going to replace the existing 'Mobil 1' filters. Same product, new 'tag line' to better match the new oils from ExxonMobil.

I called Mobil and asked about the release date and if they could tell me anything about the filter. They said they have started shipping so they should start showing up at Autozone stores some time soon. He also said that the new Mobil 1 EP filters will be the same size, the extra capacity comes from the filter media rather than a larger body.

I also asked at Autozone and they said it can take as many as 2 months for new products to trickle down to the stores, longer in some areas.

Not sure how Mobil would increase the size as it would undoubtably cause clearance problems on some vehicles. I know the filter on my Mustang is darn hard to get out as it is without making a huge mess.
