Anyone know when next rebates will be for Continental (or General, or others I guess)?

Plan to get new tires for my son's 2010 CR-V (225 65 R17), and looking at the Continental LX25 or maybe the General 365AW (maybe the RT45 or other decent all seasons good for SE Michigan).

Probably get tires from DT (Costco have limited selection in this size, so they are all around $200 each).

I think I just missed a recent rebate, darn it.

They had one for about a month before black Friday last year. I bought 4 TrueContact Tour for my sons car then.

If you don't have it and feel like adding to collection, open up a Continental Tires credit card. Last year if you used it they doubled the rebate from $110 without to $220 with. It took like 5 months to get the rebate. I paid off the CC on first statement so I wouldn't get hit with the interest.

Excellent info, thanks Sequoiasoon.

I've heard that the Truecontacts are also very good tires.

Right now, and for the whole month of October, simpletire has $100 off the Nitto Motivo 365, which is available in your size 225/65-17 :)

If you want something cheaper, the Milestar AW365 might suit you. Milestar is well-liked on here. The cheapest all-weather tires in your size seem to be the Fortune Climaflex 4S and the Prinx Hiseason 4S HS1

You should probably get all-weather tires. And of course, Black Friday is usually a good time to buy them, if you don't like the Nittos for some reason.

I can vouch for the General 365AW and the Toyo Celsius II. Both are good tires.

Continental has traditionally offered a rebate during November.

If you buy from DT, as you mentioned, DT typically throws in their own rebates for their big November sale. If you don't have a DT credit card, it may be worth getting one, as they often offer a $50-$75 savings if you pay with a DT card. Then just pay it off in full.

DT has always offered some of their best prices in November, along with all the manufacturer rebates that are offered at the same time. Later this month, check the DT website for details. They will have all the deals listed.

Thanks for the info.
Sounds like late November will be the ticket.

The CR-V is pretty good in Michigan weather, even with average tires. Or, maybe I'm just used to driving in snow etc.

Anyway, I considered (and may still consider) a more budget tire such as the Goodyear Reliant, Milestar, etc, because of the CRVs good manners and the fact that we probably won't keep the car for more than a few years.

The car would probably be just fine, but my 16 year old son is driving the car...
If he got into an accident where good tires MIGHT have prevented it, I would be guilt-ridden knowing that it happened because I wanted to save a few hundred dollars.

If no sales present, I'll sick it up and get some tires. But it would drive me nuts if I miss out on a good deal.
Thanks Mom for making me so **** thrifty!

Side note, I drove the most wretched rear wheel drive cars with worn, mismatched, improperly inflated tires...and did just fine because I LEARNED to handle the car.
No collision avoidance, traction control, ABS, AWD, air bags, etc.
Not saying these items are bad, but learning how to feel what the car is doing is absolutely paramount.

The price difference between a good rated higher tier tire and budget is not that much IMO when it is all that touches the ground. I prefer dedicated snows for winter as the difference of 30 feet stopping distance maybe the "that was close" or ^%@$%^&** with insurance, injuries etc. I run dedicated winter tires/rims as easy to swap in driveway. I get about 5 winters out of the tires and the rims last as long as I have it.

If doing one tire and wanting better winter I would probably get the Michelin CC2, Nokian WRG4/5. The Conti LX25 and the TrueContact also get good reviews for winter but not listed as 3PMSF. Remember the biggest factor in winter is being able to stop and turn not so much worried about accelerating. My kids tried in their own vehicles on a nice snowy day in front of house. I had them do it on their good all seasons (3 season) and then 15 minutes later on full winter. 30 feet shorter emergency braking at 30mph is not a small difference.

@Looger search on me for posts/links to StreetSurvival.org, I have picture/video links. Through Tirerack and car clubs for hands on experience in emergency braking, lane change, wet skid pad, etc and done in their vehicle with an instructor. I don't know on CRV due to being a bit higher but in my Sonata, my son did it with and without the safety of stability control. Helped him a lot with understanding how the vehicle reacts.

Both my kids are confident but cautious driving especially in bad weather. They would rather be the ones driving wherever they go as their friends leave a bit to be desired on paying attention on the road as well as vehicle maintenance. I also had them do all the emergency braking/cornering etc in a big parking lot when it snowed so they can experience it also safely.

If you search CRV forums or other Honda forums you might find some spare rims, even with snows for a good price. Facebook MP, craigslist also. Other models will fit if you compare the bolt pattern, hub size and offset. Wheel-size.com has details. I have Hyundai rims on my Accord that also fit daughters '08 CRV if I wanted. The hub bore is a bit larger so I have 3mm hub rings even though not needed as the the rims are lug centric with the tapered lugs. Right place, right time for me I was able to get 4 matching factory CRV rims for $150.

General currently has $100 off on a set of 4 . Just put on General Grabber HTS60 on my car a couple of days ago . The rebates covered most of Generals current lineup I believe.

Wow thanks everyone. I must have gone to the wrong website cuz I didn't see rebate General tires.

The seem to indicate that the Continental LX25 is quite good across the board, with no glaring negatives.

The General 365AW scores a bit better in winter, leaning more toward winter capability, but seems to be on the noisier side with some slightly odd handling characteristics.
The CRV is not a quiet car, so I hate to add more noise into the mix.
There are complaints of decreased mileage, which is a concern because my son is paying for his own fuel. He's already griped about the relatively poor mileage on his car.

The general rt45 has pretty good reviews, seems to be more balanced in terms of all-season capability.
We had a set of rt43 on my wife's old CRV, and they did quite well for us.
Though I want a tire that is reasonably capable in snow, 99% of our annual driving involves little to no snow.
When we do have snow, it is usually dealt with pretty quick.
Of course there was that freak year 2013 where we received over 92 in of snow (I think we average only 35 to 40). That kind of sucked.

I'm definitely leaning toward the continental, but I haven't ruled out the Generals yet.

You should have rebates now. In the fall all brands have rebates for winter and all weather.

If you never had winter or all-weather tires you don't know what you are missing. I was skeptical about winters until I actually tried it. I was shocked how good it is.

I picked the Continental Tru contacts over the Michelin due to inclement weather testing. The cost savings was a nice bonus. I do use Michelins in other applications. Check out tests to see what works best in your application.

We have the General 365AW on one Outback and Michelin CC2 on the other. The CC2 is superior in every way - handling, dry, rain, moderate snow, ice slush. etc. The 365AW might have a slight edge in very deep snow, which is pretty rare in SE Michigan. CC2's are also a few hundred more $ per set, but cheaper per mile, since they last a lot longer.

I'd go CC2 if your budget allows.

Back on through end of November. $110 + $90 off if you use the Credit card. https://continentaltire.com/promotion#details

Costco is having a $60/$40 off a set of Michelin, $60 if the tires are more than $900, $40 otherwise. It’s paltry but Costco does include installation. They also have a $90/60 off Bridgestone/Firestone, same deal. Michelin is a two week offer.
