Anyone here use 0w-20 in their 2007 Corolla?

I've been using 5w30 in my 2008 Corolla without a problem. I have also read that Toyota back spec'd to 5w20 but I haven't seen it myself. I have also 'heard' that some Corolla owners report that 0w20/5w20 make their engines 'noisier'.
I'm sticking with 5w30/0w30.

the 2.5 liter engines in the 2010 camrys and the motor in the prius requires 0W-20 oil. On the rav4's it can either take 5W-20 or 0W-20 depending on what you want in it.

If you have a good stash of 0W20 (M1?), I say try it.

My '00 E430 is spec'd for A3 oils, M1 0W40 was factory fill and that was the only oil it had until 2008. Since 2008 it had/has PP and Synpower 5W20 and M1 0W20, the engine is much quieter with XW20 oils.

Although not one poster responding to the question directly, I'd say that the answer from all of them would be a simple "no".

There are plenty of reasons: better flow on startup, slightly better mileage, a tiny bit more horsepower, and the 0w20 Toyota oil is an excellent oil at a great price too!

I would use 5-20 without questions, all 06 and newer 1zz-fe motors are approved for 5w-20.

My 08 vibe is weird, the filler cap says 5w30 "SL" grade oil, the owners manual says 5w30 "SM". An 08 Matrix (sister cars) calls for 5w-20 on the cap and in the manual. I wonder if GM said to use 5w30 so dealers only have to stock one oil?

I use 5w-20 in the vibe, no issues. And a 0w-20 may be beneficial in cold weather.

My 05 Vibe (only ever sec'd for 5W30) gets very short trips in the winter; short enough that the coolant doesnt get up to even anywhere close to operating temp let alone operating temp. for the oil. Because of this I may well try a 0W20 come this fall....or maybe a blend which would include 0W20.

Depends upon the startup temps and exactly what amount defines better flow ? Lets get real here . When I had my boat with a 7,500 rpm redline big block Chev during the summer 15w and 20w and straight 40 would pump into the top end when cranking the engine to adjust the valves ,is that enough flow? I an sure that durung the winter a lighter w number would recommended.

Rouge21, under those operating conditions even the Toyota 0W-20 is too thick but it is the lightest oil available in Canada.
Use it straight.

that is funny Caterham

.

But I am a convert. Such short trips in cold weather seems perfect for a 0W20. Heck maybe I will splurge and go for the really good stuff i.e. Eneos. That cool looking bottle has to make the oil better

Welcome back Steve.

I hate to disagree but the flow is not fast enough with the heavier oil. Even at operating temp' the lighter 20wt oil will flow through the bearings faster than heavier oil like a 15w40
and extract more heat. Usually the only limiting factor on how light an oil can be is maintaining adequate oil pressure.
The old lubrication axiom applies; you want the oil to be as light as possible but only as thick as necessary.

Toyota REALLY dropped the ball on making it 'clear' what oil is to be ued in various Toyota cars over the last 5 years - TSB's that cannot always be found, oil caps that read different on the same car, dealerships that tell you different things.....

I'd want to keep it simple - use whatever it says on the actual oil cap. That way, if for some reason you have a problem that involves oil, you can pop the hood, point to the cap, and say "I used XW-XX, JUST like it says to RIGHT THERE".

Good point, but it also applies to other marques.

What are the odds of getting a new oil filler cap from Toyota (free of course) that says 0W-20 if your car is back spec'd for that grade?
