Anyone here have a 7.3 gas Super Duty?

I bought a 2020 F-250 Lariat Crew Cab with the 7.3 in October. I’ve towed our 32 foot travel trailer once so far. It had no problem pulling our trailer. So far it has been trouble free. The 7.3 has plenty of power and makes the truck enjoyable to drive. The 10 speed shifts great as well. I get 15-16 MPG commuting to work. I traded a 2017 Silverado Duramax for the Ford. Truck developed a water leak that the dealer couldn’t solve. In my opinion the Ford 7.3 is the best heavy duty gas motor, both horsepower and torque wise. Obviously since it is new, it hasn’t been around long enough to demonstrate long term durabilit.

On a side note. The biggest issue with the GM 6.6L is that they dropped the 4.10 gear option.

Watch the IKE Gauntlet videos on youtube if you get board. The Ford gassers do fantastic jobs towing up the CO mountain with thin air.

2020 F250 bought early November, checked the oil yesterday at just over 2,600 miles and the level is low already. Dipstick is flimsy and binds going back in. Overall a good truck otherwise but at this rate may have an issue getting to the 10k mileage for oil change.

The 10R140 is an excellent transmission. Yes there have been a few that have been replaced under warranty but those numbers are low.
Is it? What's the highest mileage one in service? Initial observations mean little to nothing.....Let's see what happens when these start getting miles & work on them.

They could very well end up being a fine unit?

Doesn't 10 speeds or 10 gears in the same space as previous 5 speed transmissions means each of the 10 gears have to be smaller and thus less durable?

From my contacts within Ford service departments.....The Job 1's have their fair share of issues. I think the new 10 speed might be a dud?.....Same goes for the GM 10 speed.

The 6 speed 6R140 & Allison 1000 are "were" proven units....They just needed more powerful gasoline engines to power them.
Are the Ford’s still a body off for major repairs thing?

No.....These units use Combinations of different Clutch Packs to achieve the desired ratio....Power flow has gotten very complicated.

ZF-8HP.......

The guy says there are different versions based on torque output. 8HP90 for the 707 HP Hellcat, 8HP70 for regular V8's and 8HP45 for V6 engines. Whats the difference between them and how much more can the 90 cost Chrysler over the 45 that they wouldn't just put the 90 in everything and have it last much longer?

I’ve heard bad things about the dipstick , a lot of new vehicles seem to consume oil , my parents new Subaru takes about a quart in 5k. I’ve had a lot of older vehicles that mad around 200k miles on them and didn’t use a drop. Hopefully your consumption will slow down when you get some more miles on it. IMO I wouldn’t wait till 10k and change the oil but that’s just me. I did test drive one while it didn’t have the low end torque diesels have it wasn’t a slouch either.

I have a family member who is a mechanic at a fairly large Ford dealer. He told me the main problem he has seen with the new 7.3s was broken valve springs. I can't remember how many he said he had seen since the engine was introduced but I do know it was enough for him to mention it to me. Other than that, I haven't heard anything. He also told me he'd be buying an F-250 within the next year...diesel.

I’m looking at getting a new HD truck and have been eyeballing the new 7.3 Ford. I recently sold my 2015 Ram with the Cummins and don’t want to get into another diesel for reliability , maintenance and upfront cost because I don’t really need it I don’t think. Will be towing around 13k a few times every few months will be the heaviest thing that I’ll be hauling. Mostly smaller car trailers with atvs or firewood in a dump trailer. Looking specifically at a F350 XLT with 4:30 gears. If you guys have one let me know how you like it.
2021 f250 SD 7.3 3.55 Crew 4x4 SB. Not exactly what you are looking at but close. I've had it less than a week, 500 miles and all smiles so far. Shifting was a little wishy washy at first which is normal. Most of the torque comes in at 1600 rpm. I don't have a real big trailer, went with the 3.55 diff. First through third gears are very close,4.69-2.98-2.14.....eight, nine and ten are also really close, .83-.68-.63...Lots of choices for that 3.55 diff/trans to find happy spots for the godzilla. I think I will be very happy.
