Anyone else write down date/mileage on filters?

I've done that and once when taking my parents' car to a quickie lube place (Jiffy Lube where I could witness everything from the waiting area) I noticed that they also wrote down the date and mileage on the filter. I've also done this with air filters. I try to keep a log of maintenance on my computer, but sometimes I forget to note it. I always take a photo of my odometer and the supplies used, and usually can track the date down if I forget.

I don't any longer but used too. I now have a great app for my phone that allows me to input all sorts of auto related info... Use it to track OCIs, filters, gas and MPG... even allows for input of car washes, wipers, ... Very handy come tax time

I used to do that on dads tractor. I would scratch the date and hours in it.

I have been writing the date and mileage on my air filter for a very long time now, helps me remember when I bought it and I know when to replace it.

On an oil filter it needs to be scratched in or it will get rubbed or dissolved off.

No, Sharpie ink can rub off with oil and I never considered scratching up the filter. I do it the old school way, writing all service information in a small notebook I keep in each of my vehicles.

Put my info on that wide masking tap on the air box . Mileage , date and oil used .

Been using Sharpie on the filter bottom for years. When dried before application, it works great. Road dirt on the filter. Oil here stays inside the filter.

Sharpie used on the new filter box top with pertinent info then thumb tacked to the peg board.

Yeah, mileage with a Sharpie on the filters, filter box top with same info stuck to garage wall and keyed into the computer as well. That all gives me a shot at finding the info when needed.

I change my oil in late October and early April. Easy to remember.

That reminds me, I got an oil change coming up!

I've thought of doing this, but with the current filter stash i have, I'd need a white paint pen. The traditional Sharpie would be invisible, All the Filters are black - (Wix, Bosch,Mopar)

I just have one of the generic reminder decals from o'reilly on my windshield, and print off the date/mileage for the next service with my label maker. change the oil, peel off old label, apply new one.

Sharpie doesn't run off.. And why you talking bout oil resolving it.. You shouldn't have oil touching it.. And even so it doesn't..

I note the date and mileage on oil, air and cabin filters when I replace them. I also note what oil I used on the oil filter. I've done that on aircraft filters for many years.

That's how My brother does it,(all maintenance and Fill-ups) and i tried keeping the notebook up when i bought the neon from him.

found it a bit unruly for my tastes, so i copied everything over into a spreadsheet, and keep that updated.
which of course is way more complicated (I have an app on my phone i record stuff in at the pump, then type into spreadsheet later), but works better for me.

Otherwise, that is the worst place for a reminder. Who wants to crawl under their car just to double check when the filter/oil was last changed?

I bought a bunch of windshield static cling reminders from ebay. I think I got 50 for $5. It has lines to include date, mileage, and oil grade.
You can also get some free from some auto parts chain stores.

Depends on the car. The filter location on my folks' Camry is visible simply by popping the hood.

I have a droid and use aCar. I like it a lot - allows for multiple vehicles

Used VehiCal when I had an iPhone

Both are very good
