Anyone able to give me a rough idea of value?

Since bikes are outside my realm of knowledge, I was wondering if any of you fine members could give me an idea of what to ask for my 1980 Honda CB900C with 16k original miles on it. It's all original other than the tires and maintenance. It's got new plugs, the carbs have been done, all new Amsoil fluids, and the forks have been rebuilt. Here's my original post when from when I got her:

The Official Introduction Thread

The bike below looks to be in about the same shape, roughly the same mileage, but the price seems a bit out there. I won't be selling until the bike is out of storage in the spring, but I figured it can't hurt to set expectations early.

I must ask, what do the Amsoil fluids have to do with the value of anything?

Looks really nice! Is that an automatic transmission? If so it will detract a bit from the collector prices, IMO. The UJM craze is still going strong, so I'd put it out there for about that price ($4900) and see what happens.

The brand doesn't matter, just giving a complete picture of the maintenance I've done.
Thought you were in love with this bike.
I was, and am, however it ended up sitting more than being used. As much as I enjoy the bike, I'm just a car guy at heart. I loved the experience, however I'd rather see the bike enjoyed by someone who will use it.

It's actually got 2 gearboxes, the main 5-speed and a sub hi-lo transmission. Think of it like a 2-speed rear end in an old truck.

$4900 seems high ... what's Kelly Blue Book say? My 2000 Hayabusa is hardly $4900 on Kelly Blue Book.

Update - KBB shows $2,135.

I agree, the $4,900 is far fetched. I never expected that. Being that my bike is a 1-year only color, with low original miles, in all original condition, I was thinking $2.3-2.5k. Maybe throw it up for $2,800 and see what happens. From what I've read on the forums, just an original exhaust in good condition can fetch $1k+, so who knows. Apparently with these bikes even having something as simple at the side panel covers is a big deal.

For a clean example such as your bike, I'd be looking for the person who had one of those back in the day, and would love to have a clean, low-mile example again.

Maybe there's a Forum dedicated to them, filled with your target buyer. I wouldn't sell it for some low amount, if/until you've exhausted trying to find the right buyer.

Same for a clean, low mile, unrestricted Hayabusa. There's book value, then there's what the right buyer is willing to pay.

Price is hard on these, but as mentioned it is worth what someone is willing to pay.

I think I mentioned in your other thread that this was one of the first "big bikes" I ever rode, and fell in love with it then.
I would love to own one (would prefer one with fairing, but still), with this being a very nice, unmolested bike, I would still not pay more than probably $2500 for it.
After all, it is still a 40 year old bike that will need work, with parts getting harder to come by every day.
Never hurts to start high and go down.

Start at 4900....you will get all sorts of low balls. There are guys out there that want old/extra nice and willing to pay for it. You can always come down.

The problem is with old Japanese bikes (and even some bikes like Ironhead Sportsters and '86, '87 Sportsters) parts are really hard to get.
