If you have any leftover asphalt roofing cement, I’d use that around the battery post before installing the terminal. Else, I’d epoxy it and call it a day.

I recommend Gorilla Clear Epoxy for that application. It seems to have just a little bit of flexibility to it when cured.

Its only been on there a few days but I think this is the best way to fix a leaky battery post.

Well 2 more months and still no leaks. It lasted about 3 months and no hint it was trying to leak. I sold the battery to a guy I work with last week for $100 in a battery now pay later deal. Got the hundred dollars today as today is payday.
I made a group 78/34 optimia battery fit in my ford. My crimped ring terminals and naval style battery terminals gave me a little more wiggle room for installing a smaller battery over the Ford factory setup.
To secure the battery I turned the battery wedge block upside down and used a slight, maybe 3mm longer 6x1 bolt from my 6x1 nuts and bolts collection.
I had to sit the battery back, closer to the positive cables as they had less slack than the negatives.
I have 6x1 stainless thread rod somewhere in my junk collection. I'll upgrade the battery hold down bolt to a stainless thread rod when I locate them. I'm thinking just buy more 6x1 thread rod then next time I'm looking for them I'll find them within a minute or I won't even be looking for them and I'll find them.

Instead of using RTV I have often used Black Shoe Goo for misc repairs. It has a rubber like seal with a real good adhesion to many items

I've used RTV, then some felt washers, and finished with a slather of NOCO anti-corrosion stuff in the can with the brush. Worked fine.

I fixed one years ago with JB Weld, I gave it plenty of time to cure before re-attaching the cables to it. It held up fine until the battery finally gave up the ghost.

I did a battery post leak repair and its been about six months and no sign of leaking. I gave a good cleaning around the base of both posts even though it was only one that was leaking. I had a small bottle of touch up paint for one of my cars. I used the brush and painted around the post a few times maybe 3 or 4 coats of paint. I can't say if the paint seeps into the leak area or just seals it at the surface but it seems to have worked for months already

Well it started leaking on the + post some time between June and july.
So it lasted about a year and I believe this operation could probably be repeated as needed. Pic the old epoxy off and repeat until the battery is ded.

Coat around where the post exits liberally with some sticky grease - like tacky red - then use the little felt pads mentioned. Double stack them if you have enough post. Best I found so far.

This is exactly what I did. It’s been a success for two years and counting, so far.
