I remember reading a while back about oil filters. I know to stay away from Fram. I have been using Purolate Pure One filters. I remember them being among the best filters. Does anyone have any input on the best oil filters? I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but I like to get people's opinions. Thanks!

Probably belongs in Oil Filter forum.

I personally go for cost-effectiveness. Motorcraft is a $3.35 filter with a silicone ADBV that can last the duration of my synthetic oil change.

I concur. I like PureOne wherever I buy them. Excellent flow properties and arguably(not much arguing) the best filtration specs of any filter. We can argue the can is thin, but I don't drive over boulders with my car.

Several threads on this, regular Fram is the suspect filter that has had some failures, but has also been used by lots of folks for many many years without failure. Agreed universally that Fram Ultra is a great filter.

Wix are very good and are what I currently use. Amsoil (for extended drain) has a really good filter but it's spendy.

And I think there's a similar Bosch filter but I haven't used one yet. Compare base plates and rubber ADBV color.

I have used on the Nitro - NAPA Gold, Fram Ultra, QS, Pennzoil, Mopar to name a few.
The VW is a little more restricted in choice.

I honestly wasn't aware that Fram now makes the Ultra filter. I read a lot of bad things about the basic Fram filters. I wouldn't hesitate to get the Ultra based on everyone's recommendations. I actually was at Walmart a bit ago, and they were sold out of Ultras for my vehicle. I have to go to AAP and pick up a filter. It will either be a PureOne or Ultra.

Stop the insanity!

Well, sir or ma'am, that is exactly what you've got!

Folks, there is no "best" filter, and certainly no "best filter list", except that which exists in the bigot'ed mind of the public due to marketing hype. (And I'd include some BITOGers in that comment, too).

There is no "best" filter list because there is no ability to say with certainty how any filter would react in an undefined situation. We know absolutely nothing about how a filter is going to be challenged in a hypothetical situation with no boundaries or descriptions. And what is good for one application, likely isn't a sure-thing for another.

There certainly are premium filters that do an excellent job with efficiency and lifecycle, but those are not necessarily "best" if "normal" applications are in mind, as they cannot pay for themselves and don't reduce particulate in a manner which manifests into tangible results in wear rates.

Conversely, an inexpensive filter is not a good choice when the expectations are heavy deposits, long OCIs, etc.

Wemis - why don't you tell us about the specifics of your situation, and then some of us can make a more reasoned suggestion, while still others continue on their fantasy ride.

Far be it from me to interject some common sense and rational thought into this fine series of uptoic rhetoric.
